On Fox & Friends Thursday, Steve Doocy defended his son, Peter, after the Fox News White House correspondent questioned President Joe Biden on rumors of massive cash payouts to illegal immigrants who had once been separated from family members at the southern border.

Peter Doocy cited an October Wall Street Journal report that alleged as much, the nature of which Biden evidently believes is “garbage.”

“About the way, forward, Mr. President,” said Doocy, “as you were leaving for your overseas trip, there were reports that that were surfacing that your administration is planning to pay illegal immigrants who were separated from their parents at the border up to $450,000 each, possibly a million dollars per family. Do you think that might incentivize more people to come over illegally?”

“If you guys keep sending that garbage out, yeah,” said the president. “But it’s not true.”

Doocy followed up and asked if what the WSJ published was a “garbage report.”

“Yeah,” replied Biden.

The president then curiously asked about the actual dollar amount, which Doocy confirmed was reportedly $450,000 with the possibility of perhaps up to $1M per family.

“That’s not gonna happen,” Biden said in response, though it is not certain if the president meant it wasn’t going to happen at all, or if he was simply denying the exact dollar amount as a way of dodging the larger question.

Steve Doocy then pointed to an official statement from ACLU Executive Director Anthony D. Romero, wherein the organization contends that Biden is either unaware of what his administration is doing, or he is breaking an elemental campaign promise, or both:

President Biden may not have been fully briefed about the actions of his very own Justice Department as it carefully deliberated and considered the crimes committed against thousands of families separated from their children as an intentional governmental policy. But if he follows through on what he said, the president is abandoning a core campaign promise to do justice for the thousands of separated families. We respectfully remind President Biden that he called these actions ‘criminal’ in a debate with then-President Trump, and campaigned on remedying and rectifying the lawlessness of the Trump administration. We call on President Biden to right the wrongs of this national tragedy.

“It sounds like the administration did not tell the president what the administration of the president is doing,” Steve Doocy said.

“So he can say it’s garbage, it’s not going to happen, but at the same time his own Department of Justice is negotiating with these families and the ACLU,” he added. “And apparently, Joe Biden doesn’t know what the Joe Biden administration is doing.”

“Somebody’s not dealing the president into his big decisions,” co-host Brian Kilmeade added.

“Who’s running this country?” co-host Ainsley Earhardt wondered.
