‘Was Liz Cheney always a left-wing wacko?’ Tucker questions Wyoming Rep’s chummy new friendship

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson launched into critiques of CNN contributor Ana Navarro and GOP Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming during one segment of his Monday show, saying both have hugely damaged the country’s cohesion and social fabric.

After promoting his new three-part Fox Nation series “Patriot Purge,” which takes a look at the Jan. 6 riot and provides what he has described as new insight into the incident, Carlson said it is noteworthy to understand “who was so mad about,” it, a reference to Cheney.

“This is one of those moments when people reveal who they really are,” Carlson continued. “A bunch of people in Washington told you when we released the trailer, ‘You’re not allowed to see this.’ So Liz Cheney, for example, said that we should be fired, the show should be taken off the air for daring to look at what actually happened.”

Carlson’s comments were likely in response to remarks Cheney made last week online.

“It appears that Fox News is giving Tucker Carlson a platform to spread the same type of lies that provoked violence on January 6. As Fox News knows, the election wasn’t stolen and January 6 was not a ‘false flag’ operation,” Cheney — vice-chair of the House Select Committee on Jan. 6 — said on Twitter, also tagging News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch and Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott.

Cheney is one of two Republicans serving on the panel; the other, Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, who is also a frequent Trump critic, has announced he won’t seek reelection next year.

Continuing, Carlson noted that Cheney “claimed she was conservative at one point” but that she has been “evolving” before showing a photo of her and Navarro, who is known for her frequent criticisms of the GOP and Trump in particular.

“Ana Navarro is way more radical and much more bigoted than anybody who was arrested on January 6. She is much farther from the mainstream from American thought than, say, Ashli Babbitt,” Carlson said, referencing the unarmed female U.S. Air Force vet shot and killed by a Capitol Police lieutenant the day of the riot as she attempted to climb the through the broken glass of a door leading to the House chamber.

Navarro believes “people should be based on the color of their skin” before playing a clip of her in August 2020 telling viewers she is “disgusted by the sight of white men,” the host said.

“Attacking people on the basis of their skin color, that is so much more damaging to this country than anything that happened on January 6, period,” Carlson said.

He then went on to question Cheney’s association with Navarro, who is extremely left in her views.

“You have to wonder why [Navarro] is Liz Cheney’s new friend. Was Liz Cheney always a left-wing wacko?” he said. “No, she didn’t seem like it. She seemed kind of conservative, always a neocon, but what’s this?”

“People are changing in this moment,” Carlson continued, before moving on to Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), “someone else who tells you they’re really conservative.”

Carlson took Graham to task for allegedly attempting to convince Capitol Police officers to fire on unarmed rioters and demonstrators who breached the Capitol Building on Jan. 6, comments that Graham’s office has confirmed after the Washington Post reported them.

“What are you doing? Take back the Senate! You’ve got guns. Use them!” Graham allegedly yelled amidst the chaotic scenes unfolding around the Capitol. “We give you guns for a reason. Use them.”

“Lindsey Graham was running around the Capitol ordering [police] to murder the protestors,” Carlson said. “Shoot American citizens for the crime of trespassing.”

After repeating that he has never supported the breach, he nevertheless questioned the South Carolina Republican’s stance: “What the hell’s wrong with you, Lindsey Graham?”
