‘You’ve got guns. Use them!’ Lindsey Graham called for Capitol Police to use guns on Jan. 6, Senator tells WaPo

The Washington Post claimed in an investigative series that an unnamed Republican senator is asserting that Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) yelled at the sergeant-at-arms on Jan. 6 during the Capitol riot to shoot protesters.

“What are you doing? Take back the Senate! You’ve got guns. Use them!” Graham allegedly yelled during the chaos. “We give you guns for a reason. Use them.”

On Sunday, the Washington Post published a three-part series that supposedly reconstructs in detail what happened before, during, and after the Capitol riot. CNN ran with the allegation. Host Jim Acosta eagerly reported the unverified statement as fact, going so far as to bring up the Boston Massacre and assertions that protesters wanted to try politicians in public for their misdeeds.

The second part of the investigative series is dramatically entitled “Bloodshed.” It describes how then-Vice President Mike Pence and other members of Congress were evacuated from the Senate chamber as protesters breached the building that day.

The Post reported that Senate and House leaders were evacuated by Capitol Police and taken to an undisclosed location. Many lawmakers remained in their chambers for a few minutes before being taken to the Hart Senate Office Building.

The leftist media outlet states that Graham was enraged that senators were forced to leave. The Post alleges that he shouted at the sergeant-at-arms and urged him to shoot protesters, citing an anonymous Republican senator who claims to have knowledge of the exchange.

The report also contends that about an hour into the attack, Graham was one of a number of Republican senators who attempted to reach Trump to convince him to get his supporters to retreat. It alleges that Graham called Ivanka Trump and told her that “this thing is going south.”

“Graham, the South Carolina senator who was one of Trump’s closest friends in Congress, called Ivanka Trump repeatedly with suggestions for what the president should say. ‘You need to get these people out of here,’ he told the president’s daughter. ‘This thing is going south. This is not good. You’re going to have to tell these people to stand down. Stand down,’” the Washington Post reported.

Graham did not object to the certification of Biden’s winning the presidency following the protest. At the time, he also appeared to turn against former President Trump.

“Trump and I, we’ve had a hell of a journey,” he remarked. “I hate it to end this way. Oh, my God, I hate it. From my point of view, he’s been a consequential president. But today… all I can say is count me out, enough is enough.”

Graham would go on to defend former President Trump as the left attempted to impeach him a second time in connection to the storming of the Capitol. That effort failed.

The South Carolina Republican has thrown his support behind Trump, insisting that he remains the most popular and powerful Republican in the nation and is essential to the GOP moving forward.

“To try to erase Donald Trump from the Republican Party is insane. And the people who try to erase him are going to wind up getting erased,” Graham commented during an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity earlier this year. “It’s impossible for this party to move forward without President Trump being its leader because the people who are conservatives have chosen him as their leader.”

Graham has not commented on the Post’s allegations.
