‘No, no, no. … They’re lynching people’: Whoopi doesn’t like what NBC sportscaster has to say on CRT

‘The View’ co-host Whoopi Goldberg got into a heated conversation with NBC Sports broadcaster Michele Tafoya over Critical Race Theory on Tuesday and whether or not it is being taught in schools.

The discussion ranged from the Virginia gubernatorial election between Democrat Terry McAuliffe and Republican Glenn Youngkin to Critical Race Theory and how that factored into the contest.

The issue is very hot in Virginia and will definitely factor into who wins in Tuesday’s faceoff. Many parents are speaking out concerning their opposition to Critical Race Theory and McAuliffe has a lot to answer for when it comes to parents being involved in what is taught to their children.

At one point in the back and forth during the discussion on The View, Goldberg even brought up lynching black people in the South in connection to Critical Race Theory.

She stated that schools should just come out and say they aren’t teaching Critical Race Theory which ‘The View’ co-host claims is a college subject. Co-host Joy Behar was even blunter and called it “culture war BS.”

Tafoya jumped in with a story of her own children and said students in their schools have been inundated and even segregated in “affinity groups” based on race.

“Why are we even teaching that the color of the skin matters? Because to me, what matters is your character and your values,” Tafoya commented.

“Yes, but you know — you live in the United States. You know that color of the skin has been mattering to people…” Goldberg responded.

“Can’t we change it that it doesn’t?” Tafoya asked.

“We need white people to step up and do that,” Goldberg insisted.

“But I think they have been doing that since the Civil War,” Tafoya remarked.

“No, no, no. No, they haven’t,” Goldberg asserted.

Goldberg also addressed how long it took for states to outlaw the lynching of black people.

“It was okay in the South,” she said. “People did it all the time. People would run you down not that long ago, they’re lynching people.” She also warned that America is facing a “reckoning” over race.

Tafoya has two children in school and brought up the issue of what they are being taught about race and how that aligns with Critical Race Theory despite the fact that it is not being called that in schools. While panelist Sara Haines spoke about age-related issues, Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, and Joy Behar all objected to the argument.

Both Goldberg and Hostin claimed that CRT was not being taught in schools at all. They basically asserted that the claim was made up and parents were overreacting.

“Now the message is white parents are being ignored when they complain their children aren’t comfortable learning about racism. That their white children don’t want to be uncomfortable. Well, let me tell you something. Black kids around this country are stigmatized and are made to feel uncomfortable every single day, and I don’t think it’s too much to ask white parents to allow their children to learn about the very real history in this country that is still very prevalent, the systemic racism that is still very prevalent in our country. What is so wrong with learning the real history?” Hostin demanded and then added, “And I’m sorry if little white kids feel a little uncomfortable.”

“I have a little boy and a little girl,” Haines said. “I don’t want anyone telling them at young, impressionable ages to my little boy, ‘You’re in charge here because you’re a white little boy,’ and it’s not race, but, like, ‘You are of the majority. You can do whatever you want. The world is your oyster.’ To my little girl, ‘The world is going to suck. It’s going to be against you because you’re a girl and you’re not going to have as many things,’” she argued.

“There’s no class in second grade’ that is called ‘Your little boy sucks,’” Hostin quipped.

“No,” Haines stated. “I’m using this as an example … Critical Race Theory is a legal scholarly argument. The name is being co-opted. What we’re saying is the systemic problem should be age-appropriate.”

Tafoya pointed out that she had an adopted daughter from Colombia and wanted her to excel even though her skin color was different.

“That’s a great dodge, Sara and Michele,” Hostin said attacking them. “We’re talking about Critical Race Theory that is not being taught in schools.”

“Wait, what are we dodging?” Tafoya asked.

“Maybe under a different name,” Tafoya said indicating that CRT was being taught in schools just not under that title.

“Here’s the thing. If you don’t think it’s a bad thing for children to know about the horrors, there should be no issue –” Goldberg interjected. “The problem here is if you really want to be a person that takes care of your kids, go to your teachers and find out what they’re teaching.”
