The Atlanta Braves are going to the World Series for the first time since 1999, an accomplishment that Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp implied is a form of poetic justice for the social justice cohort.
After the underdog Braves wrapped up the National League Championship Series four games to two in a symmetrical 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in game 6 and earned a trip to the Fall Classic, Kemp took to Twitter to express the following:
“While Stacey Abrams and the MLB stole the All-Star Game from hardworking Georgians, the Braves earned their trip to the World Series this season and are bringing it home to Georgia.”
In the COVID-shortened 2020 season, the Dodgers had defeated the Braves in the NLCS in seven games. and then went on to win the World Series against the Tampa Bay Rays. The 2021 World Series between the Braves and the American League champion Houston Astros begins on Tuesday. “The Braves have gone 16 straight postseason appearances without winning a championship, the longest streak in baseball history,” ESPN noted.
Earlier this year, Major League Baseball decided to pull the 2021 All-Star Game from the Atlanta Braves home stadium in Cob Country, Georgia, in suburban Atlanta, after Kemp signed an after-the-fact voting reform measure into law.

GOP officials in Georgia from Kemp on down had inexplicably entered into a prior agreement with would-be governor and voting rights activist Abrams to water down the state’s election laws. Kemp had defeated Democrat Abrams in the 2018 gubernatorial election.
In the end, these augmented procedures arguably handed the state’s presidential electoral votes to Joe Biden and the U.S. Senate to the Democrats. As a result, Kemp — who is seeking reelection — is now facing a strong primary challenge from Democrat-turned-Republican, ex-State Rep. Vernon Jones.
It was estimated at the time that the MLB decision cost the Atlanta area about $100 million in revenue.
DeKalb County, Ga., GOP chairwoman Mari McCarthy also chimed in: “Congratulations @Braves. Who needs the @MLB All-Star Game when you get to play in the World Series! #GoBraves.”

Abrams publicly opposed an economic boycott of Georgia, however, which prompted Kemp to previously describe her as a flip-flopper given that, according to him, she allegedly pressured MLB to move the All-Star game to Denver after Kemp signed the law.
Corporate America had also jumped on the anti-voting reform bandwagon.
“Georgia’s election law sets an ID requirement for mail-in votes, limits the use of ballot drop-off boxes and gives the state Legislature more control over local-level elections… It also expands voting in some rural areas of the state,” Fox News reported.
Democrats have hyperbolically described the reforms as Jim Crow 2.0.

“Back in April, MLB decided to relocate the scheduled July 13 All-Star Game after critics complained that Georgia’s election law would adversely affect minority and low-income voters.
“Others, who viewed MLB as bowing to ‘woke’ political pressure – and blamed Abrams for much of it — argued that the baseball league’s decision would ironically hurt minorities – by removing economic activity from 51% Black Atlanta and transferring it to 76% White Denver,” Fox News recalled.
Braves! Major League Baseball pulled the all star game from Atlanta this year and the Braves responded with their first World Series this century! Glorious karma. Love it!
