San Francisco temporarily shut down the In-N-Out Burger location at Fisherman’s Wharf after the company flatly refused to force their customers to provide proof that they had taken the jab before entering the establishment.
The wildly popular fast-food restaurant only has one location in the city currently. They were targeted on Oct. 14 by the San Francisco Department of Public Health and closed down after not checking the COVID vaccination status of customers. The refusal violates an August mandate from the city that requires indoor diners to show proof of vaccination.
“Our store properly and clearly posted signage to communicate local vaccination requirements,” In-N-Out Burger’s Chief Legal and Business Officer, Arnie Wensinger declared in a statement provided to Fox News. “After closing our restaurant, local regulators informed us that our restaurant Associates must actively intervene by demanding proof of vaccination and photo identification from every Customer, then act as enforcement personnel by barring entry for any Customers without the proper documentation.”
“We refuse to become the vaccination police for any government,” Wensinger proclaimed while blasting the San Francisco Department of Health’s requirements as “unreasonable, invasive, and unsafe.” He accused San Francisco of asking restaurants to “segregate Customers” based on vaccine documentation.
“We fiercely disagree with any government dictate that forces a private company to discriminate against customers who choose to patronize their business,” the statement asserted. “This is clear governmental overreach and is intrusive, improper, and offensive.”

The store has since reopened for take-out orders only. Indoor dining is not available currently due to city regulations.
This is the only time the agency has ordered a closure for a vaccine-card violation, a health department spokesperson told The Washington Post.
The San Francisco Department of Health confirmed in a statement given to Fox News that In-N-Out was issued a notice of closure for the Fisherman’s Wharf location on Oct. 14 for “non-compliance with the Safer Return Together Health Order.” They also said that the company was warned a number of times before the closure notice was served.
“Vaccines remain our best tool to fight this disease and come out of the pandemic,” the statement claimed. “Vaccination is particularly important in a public indoor setting where groups of people are gathering and removing their masks, factors that make it easier for the virus to spread. That is why San Francisco requires proof of vaccination for indoor dining.”

In-N-Out is owned by a devout Christian named Lynsi Snyder. The franchise is famous for Bible verses on the bottom of soda and milkshake cups. The chain has 358 locations across the western United States and has a loyal following that is willing to wait hours for their burgers.
