California touts the lowest per capita number of COVID cases in the nation and the San Francisco Chronicle says it is because of a really bad winter in 2020 that created a “relatively significant amount of natural immunity.”
Virus cases are once again beginning to rise across the nation, but states with higher vaccination rates have more COVID cases than California does and the media outlet explains why that is.
“California, the U.S. coronavirus hot spot early this year, in recent weeks has recorded some of the lowest case rates in the country — lower than some states that are more vaccinated. One clear example is the New England states of Vermont and Maine,” the San Francisco Chronicle tweeted.
“As horrific as the winter surge was, with hospitals overwhelmed and death rates hitting pandemic peaks, experts say California emerged from it with a relatively significant amount of natural immunity,” the leftist news source contends.

Despite the provable statistical spike in COVID cases in the winter of 2020 and the lowest rate of contagion in the country since then, Governor Newsom is still implementing draconian virus mandates in the state, including enforced vaccinations for school children.
Newsom is crowing over the low numbers but he is not pointing to the same facts alluded to by the San Francisco Chronicle.

California is the only state currently in the “moderate transmission” category which is the second-lowest tier set by the CDC.
All other states except Connecticut are still in the “high transmission” category. California’s cases have reportedly plummeted in the last few weeks.

The San Francisco Chronicle continued, tweeting, “Experts stress that case rates are just one data point — and that a more telling metrics at this point are hospitalizations and death rates, which are low across the board in both California and New England due to the power of vaccines.”
Those “experts” are evidently trying to downplay natural immunity and, instead, primarily give credit to vaccinations and heavy-handed mandates for the drop in cases.
“Maine, with a vaccination rate just under Vermont’s at 69%, has been struggling the hardest in the region, breaking its single-day record in daily new cases last week,” the outlet reported.
As of October 5, California reportedly had 70.6 new cases per 100,000 persons over the previous 7 days.
That was the lowest of any state in the nation. Connecticut was the next lowest at 83.8 new cases per 100,000 persons over the previous 7 days.
It should be noted that many people are suspicious of the CDC’s numbers as well. But if the numbers are correct and the low rate is even partially due to many Californians contracting the virus in the winter of 2020 and therefore creating an area-related source of herd immunity, that fact should be more widely reported.

Let’s not forget that California had one of the worst surges! I was planning on going back to LA a month or two ago but when the Delta variant hit, they were breaking records there and I decided to wait. So, probably everyone there has already been exposed or gotten vaccinated.
