Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, who is a strong proponent of the defund the police movement, had her personal security detail attacked in a violent carjacking and shooting outside her home and then allegedly hid the incident.
Preckwinkle is known for condemning “systemic racism” in police departments and pushing for law enforcement to be defunded. Ironically, she is now claiming to be the victim of a carjacking and shooting incident that involved her security detail outside her home late in September. The altercation was revealed on Wednesday.
“I was at my home and I heard gunshots,” Preckwinkle claimed during a budget briefing Wednesday. “I think it’s important to say that this is a pending investigation. I can confirm that there was a violent incident two weeks ago. A member of my security detail was sitting outside my home, in his police vehicle.”
“I think this incident underscores how close to home violence is,” she hypocritically stated. “There’s been an uptick of crime in my own neighborhood in Hyde Park.”

Allegedly, two suspects attempted to carjack a member of Preckwinkle’s security detail in Hyde Park on Sept. 27, according to ABC7 Chicago. She was not harmed or in any personal danger during the incident. Her police detail, however, was allegedly assaulted and shot at.
Republican Cook County Commissioner Sean Morrison told Fox News that commissioners routinely receive alerts for major and minor crimes, as well as violence in the area. But for some reason, this incident was kept under wraps. He insinuated that Preckwinkle may have tried to hide the incident. He also bluntly accused her of hypocrisy for having a personal security detail while doing her level best to defund the police.
A dispatcher on the night of the incident stated that a Cook County Forest Preserve police officer reported assailants “attempted to carjack him, [and] he returned fire at them.”
The attackers fled. One of them left a shoe behind, according to CWB Chicago.
Chicago police found a 19-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his knee in an apartment in the vicinity. The shoes in his apartment evidently matched the one he allegedly left behind.
The alleged assailant was patched up and was then arrested on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court on a pending felony charge of possessing a stolen motor vehicle.
“In the unfortunate event that my Executive Detail is faced with another act of violence, a brief public notification will be issued that continues to ensure the safety and security of my staff, myself and does not compromise any ongoing investigation,” Preckwinkle deflected in a statement.

Even though police officers put themselves on the line to protect Preckwinkle, she is proceeding to double down on her anti-police agenda, Morrison told Fox News on Thursday. He asserted that she proposed “reimagining or re-sourcing money away from 911 boards to mental health programs” on Thursday during a budget presentation. That was the day after the incident at her home.
“She’s a complete gaslighter,” Morrison declared. “It’s gobsmacking.”

“I’m for reducing and redirecting our investment in law enforcement,” Preckwinkle told reporters in July 2020. “Systemic racism continues to plague our communities. We’re overpoliced, and there’s a disproportionate number of black deaths at the hands of the police.”
“Although she wants to defund the police, the president’s protective detail has only grown in size,” Morrison stated.
He also claimed that there is a “massive rift” between the Sheriff’s Office and Preckwinkle.
“You have to believe either that there are no policies in place to report the use of force, or that you made the wanton intentional decision not to report it,” Morrison said, accusing Preckwinkle.
The only response he got when he asked her about the incident was that it is “under investigation so I can’t talk about it.”
Morrison said that the violence plaguing Chicago traces back to Preckwinkle’s defunding efforts, among many other things. He remarked that the areas impacted by “inadequate funds” for police are “overwhelmingly communities of color.”
“Their initiatives are hurting the very people whom they purport to be helping,” he stated.
CWB Chicago also reported that during a July armed robbery, a member of Preckwinkle’s security detail had his gun stolen and that was “covered up” as well.
