A Twitter user who purports to be a nurse has warned of the potential health risks related to understaffing in a hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit which could be made more severe if administrators insist on COVID-19 jab compliance for the workforce.
“Just a little thread on what being short staffed in the NICU is like,” @BeccCobain wrote on the social media platform, as she discussed what she allegedly encountered at 6:30 a.m. when she arrived slightly early for her shift.
On that morning, her supervisor “begged” early arrivals to clock in before their shift normally started “because 3 admits are on the way.”
“Already minus 8 nurses on a 60 bed unit which means every nurse with stable babies will have 4 patients and the nurses with critical babies will have 3. That’s not safe. Walk to my area and there’s no time to sit for report because 2 babies just arrived at the same time,” she explained in the series of messages.
In addition to detailing various other challenges in the ward, Becc — who appears to be pro-vaccine — addressed the ripple effect of a mandate or a potential mandate on overworked caregivers.
“So when hospitals start firing staff for not getting the covid vaccine that situation will not improve. It will get worse, even if we lose only one nurse. And then nurses who are vaccinated will leave because of the stress. Then what?” she asked rhetorically.

Becc then questioned (as many others have, including U.S. Sen. and MD Rand Paul) have, why follow-the-science public health authorities have seemingly ignored the science behind natural immunity.

In the thread, Becc does not identify the hospital or the state where it is located, but the scenario that she is describing would be extremely concerning to parents with newborns or expectant mothers and their families.
Across the country, thousands of nurses — who obviously are on the front lines of healthcare of all kinds and thus are knowledgeable about potential infections — have already been fired or risk suspension or outright termination for abstaining from the shot for various personal reasons.
In New York, the situation is such that Gov. Kathy Hochul, Andrew Cuomo’s replacement, has called out medically trained National Guard troops to fill in for hospital staffers who are non-compliant with the state’s vaccine mandate applies in the healthcare sector.
