Trump-backed candidate sues Stephanie Grisham for defamation after she accuses him of domestic abuse

Former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham is being sued for defamation by a Trump-backed GOP candidate running for office in Ohio after she accused him of violent domestic abuse in a Washington Post op-ed.

“I told the first lady that he got physical with me,” she claimed during an interview with CNN host Jake Tapper. “She asked me if I had called the police and I said no, explaining that this close to the election, it wouldn’t be good to have yet another domestic abuse scandal hanging over the administration. I also had no proof. She nodded and did not push the matter further. As far as I know, she told no one.”

“If there’s anything I can take away, I’m almost stronger than ever now, and no one is ever going to abuse me again in any way, shape, or form,” Grisham declared.

Grisham wrote in the op-ed that she told former President Trump and then-first lady Melania Trump that her ex, Max Miller, “had become violent” but both “seemed totally unfazed about whether there was an abuser — another abuser — in their workplace.”

Grisham does not mention Miller’s name in her book or the op-ed. Both Grisham and Miller worked in the Trump administration. During that time period, they reportedly dated.

Grisham wrote that she told Melania Trump that “the end of our relationship had become violent, reaching its worst point on the day I left.”

The allegations were reported by Politico in July when three unnamed sources stated that Miller had pushed Grisham against a wall and slapped her after she accused him of infidelity.

Miller is now running for Congress in Ohio and has been endorsed by former President Trump. Grisham said the endorsement was a “gut punch.”

“For me, this is about behavior. And I am not going to lie. It was like a gut punch when I saw that he endorsed him knowing what happened. Knowing, you know, I wasn’t just some person that the president or the first lady didn’t know,” she proclaimed.

Now, Miller is suing Grisham for defamation, claiming her allegations are untrue. He contends that The Washington Post op-ed made “libelous and defamatory statements,” according to Cleveland.com. He insinuated she is making the allegations to sell more copies of her book, “I’ll Take Your Questions Now.”

“A thorough and independent investigation will not only confirm that Ms. Grisham has ‘no proof’ to corroborate her allegations against Mr. Miller as she preemptively conceded in her article that was published in the Washington Post this morning, but will also establish that she has made false allegations against him in retaliation for him breaking her heart by ending their relationship and subsequently becoming engaged to Emily Moreno,” Miller’s attorney Larry Zukerman said in a statement.

Miller had reportedly asked a judge to order Grisham not to repeat her claims, including during her CNN interview with Tapper on Tuesday. That request was denied by Judge Emily Hagan.

Grisham also told Tapper that she did not vote for Trump while she served in the Trump White House.

Tapper brought up that she wrote in the book that there should’ve been a third option to vote for in 2020. He then asked her if she had voted for Trump.

She replied, “I did not.”

Grisham asserted that she wrote in someone else’s name but she would not say who.
