Pro-Trump NYC police union chief raided by FBI, resigns as enemies gloat over downfall

The head of a New York City police union has resigned following an FBI raid on the organization’s headquarters as well as the home of Ed Mullins who has headed up the Sergeants Benevolent Association (SBA) since 2002.

On Tuesday, federal agents descended on the union’s Manhattan offices as well as Mullins’ Long Island home, conducting searches as part of an investigation of which the purpose remains unclear although, in a letter sent to members announcing his resignation, the union said that its now-former president was “apparently the target” of the probe.

The growing firestorm led to the SBA requesting that Mullins should step down. “Given the severity of this matter and the uncertainty of its outcome, the SBA Executive Board has requested that President Mullins resign from his position as SBA President. This evening, President Mullins has agreed to tender his resignation as President of the SBA,” the group said in its letter.

The union, which is among the largest in the nation, also wrote that “We have no reason to believe that any other member of the SBA is involved or targeted in this matter.”

The FBI remains tight-lipped about the matter with a spokesperson for the bureau saying that agents were “carrying out a law enforcement action in connection with an ongoing investigation,” according to the New York Daily News.

“A parade of FBI agents, clutching boxes and a black garbage bag, emerged from the SBA offices and loaded their cargo into a waiting minivan before heading off. One of the boxes appeared to hold a hard drive, and another was filled with what looked like electronics equipment removed hours after the stunning news of the probe became public,” the Daily News reported.

Mullins has been an unapologetic supporter of former President Donald J. Trump who was endorsed by the union last year. “Your vote is your choice,” he told Fox News. “I just ask that you remember that it is more than a choice between two men.”

“It is a choice between world views that will have a very direct impact on police across the nation,” he said.

His bombastic style was marked by his use of the SBA Twitter account to rage against politicians and earned him a considerable list of enemies, especially Mayor Bill de Blasio whom he often slammed.

Mullins was already in hot water before the FBI came knocking for tweeting out the confidential arrest report of de Blasio’s daughter Chiara who was arrested during last summer’s George Floyd protests during which criminals ran amok in New York City, terrorizing law-abiding citizens and engaging in acts of vandalism and looting.

He also raised hackles when he referred to the Big Apple’s former health commissioner, Oxiris Barbot as a “b*tch” after remarks that she didn’t “give two rats’ asses” about police.

Mullins’ adversaries, including de Blasio, rejoiced at the news, taking to Twitter to gloat.

“Ed Mullins dishonored his uniform, his city and his union more times than I can count. It was just a matter of time before his endless hatred would catch up with him. That day has come,” tweeted Hizzoner.

Also gleeful over his downfall was Democrat Rep. Ritchie Torres who was once referred to by Mullins in derogatory terms.

Others also spiked the ball.

While details are yet to be released, the raid on Mullins comes at a time when the Biden administration has weaponized the FBI against its political foes, including sending the feds after parents who dare to show up at school board meetings to complain about the Critical Race Theory brainwashing that their kids are being subjected to.
