NBC News anchor Chuck Todd was forced to call security during the Terry McAuliffe-Glenn Youngkin gubernatorial debate in Virginia when third-party candidate Princess Blanding temporarily derailed the event.
The second and final debate spiraled out of control as Todd tried to regain some semblance of order after the outburst by cutting to commercial.
Princess Blanding is a progressive Liberation Party candidate. She began shouting from the audience at the two men on stage approximately 15 minutes into the debate, specifically at McAuliffe, a former Democrat governor. She was incensed because she was not allowed to take part in the debate as a candidate.
“I am on the ballot! Why am I not on that stage?” Blanding shouted. “This is not democracy!”

Blanding yelled at McAuliffe, “You are not gonna win, Terry!”
The third-party candidate had a number of supporters flanking her as she declared, “I worked very hard to be on the ballot!”
One supporter yelled, “This is Jim Crow!”
Todd tried to smooth things over by telling Blanding “thank you” while she was shouting. That didn’t work. The woman was enraged over being excluded.
He eventually lost all patience with the spectacle and called for backup. “Alright, security,” Todd said as he called security over to get a handle on the interruption. That’s when he cut to a commercial break.

After being escorted out of the auditorium, Blanding went for the reporters to say her piece.
“I just made it very clear that I am a candidate, to let Virginians know that their censorship of my candidacy is racist. It is very sexist. It is very oppressive. And it’s a form of voter suppression,” Blanding proclaimed. “Their goal is to make sure Virginians don’t know that I exist so they feel that they have to choose between the lesser of two evils.”
She posited that she “had to work ten times harder” to get her name on the ballot and it’s “a bunch of bulls***” for her to be relegated to sitting in the audience instead of debating on the stage with the other candidates.
“I will not be silenced,” she asserted.

Blanding ripped into the media for not covering her campaign, claiming that they “don’t even air” her interviews and they “misquote” her.
“So, guess what? I refuse to play by the game and the rules of the duopoly,” she bluntly said. “In order for me, in order for Virginians to ensure our rightful place, we will take it. I’m not going to ask anymore. We have been told to trust the system, and the system is meant to keep third-party candidates oppressed, to make sure that people don’t know about them.”
“I have done everything I needed to do in order to get on the ballot. Why am I not able to participate in the debate? We have these two rich white men that are sitting up there and you don’t hear anyone reporting that I am the only black woman in the history of Virginia to make it on the ballot,” she remarked.
“But I can’t have my voice heard? I can’t speak and represent the voices, views, and concerns of Virginians? Again, it’s not okay. And for people to sit in there – all I’m listening to around me are people talking about their timeshares and their investments while we have people who don’t have anywhere to live and lay their heads at,” Blanding contended.
The candidate was not the only fireworks that went off at the debate.
McAuliffe, the Democrat, and Youngkin, the Republican went at each other calling one another liars.
The former governor accused Youngkin of avoiding local taxes by housing “fancy horses” on his Northern Virginia property and running a company that performed root canals on “babies.” Youngkin claimed that McAuliffe would end Virginia’s “right-to-work” status and pointed out that he supports President Biden’s “failure of leadership” and “open borders.”
McAuliffe invoked former President Trump’s name multiple times as a smear against Youngkin while calling for gun control and vaccine mandates. He’s also been accused of supporting the Defund the Police movement.
Youngkin is vaccinated and is pro-vaccine but believes in personal choice, not mandates. He’s also a Second Amendment proponent and stands firmly behind law enforcement.

“We need leadership as governor, not trying to be a Trump wannabe and doing the talking points,” McAuliffe haughtily pronounced.
“There’s an over and under tonight on how many times you are going to say ‘Donald Trump,’ and it was 10,” Youngkin told McAuliffe during the Tuesday night debate. “And you just busted through it. You are running against Glenn Youngkin.”
