Actor Will Smith gushes about Black Lives Matter as ‘perfection,’ says CRT, should be called ‘truth theory’

Actor Will Smith is a big supporter of Black Lives Matter and the leftist push for Critical Race Theory, recently proclaiming that it would be better to market it as “Truth Theory.”

“This is a difficult area to discuss, but I feel like the simplicity of Black Lives Matter was perfect,” Smith told GQ in an interview. “Anybody who tries to debate Black Lives Matter looks ridiculous. So when I talk about the marketing of our ideas, Black Lives Matter was perfection.”

Smith also weighed in on the “defund the police” movement. He believes it should be promoted in a different and less threatening manner.

“‘Abolish the police. Defund the police.’ I would love if we would just say ‘Defund the bad police.’ It’s almost like I want, as black Americans, for us to change our marketing for the new position we’re in. So ‘Critical Race Theory,’ just call it ‘truth theory,’” the “Independence Day” star posited.

“The pendulum is swinging in our direction beautifully. And there’s a certain humility that will most capitalize on the moment for the future of black Americans, without discounting the difficulty and the pain and the emotion,” he contended.

“From a standpoint of getting it done, Black Lives Matter gets it done. ‘Defund the police’ doesn’t get it done, no matter how good the ideas are,” Smith asserted. “I’m not saying we shouldn’t defund the police. I’m saying, just don’t say that, because then people who would help you won’t.”

Smith gave the interview while promoting his upcoming movie “King Richard.” In it, he plays the father of tennis stars Venus and Serena Willians. He has received accolades for the performance and is being considered as a potential Oscar contender for his role in the film.

The “Aladdin” actor is no stranger to politics. He boycotted Georgia over its voter integrity law that sought to eliminate voter fraud. He moved production for his movie “Emancipation” from that state to Louisiana in protest of the law.

“We cannot in good conscience provide economic support to a government that enacts regressive voting laws that are designed to restrict voter access. The new Georgia voting laws are reminiscent of voting impediments that were passed at the end of Reconstruction to prevent many Americans from voting,” Smith said in a joint statement with Antoine Fuqua, the director of the movie. “Regrettably, we feel compelled to move our film production work from Georgia to another state.”

Smith once called Trump’s presidency an era of “darkness” that was in response to the “light” of the Obama administration.

During the GQ interview, he discussed his upcoming film and why he previously avoided making films about slavery.

“In the early part of my career I didn’t want to show black people in that light. I wanted to be a superhero. So I wanted to depict black excellence alongside my white counterparts,” he said.

He then revealed why he turned down the lead role in Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained.”

“The first time I considered it [making a slavery film] was Django. But I didn’t want to make a slavery film about vengeance,” the 53-year-old star said.

Smith claims that “Emancipation” takes a different angle on the issue: “This was one that was about love and the power of black love. And that was something that I could rock with. We were going to make a story about how black love makes us invincible.”

“The entire world was in lockdown, watched what happened to George Floyd, and stood up with one voice and said, We see it. We agree,” he asserted. “That’s never happened before and with that, the opportunities are unlike they’ve ever been. I’ve been trying to get movies made for a long time. And the amount of money that Apple is paying to tell the story [of Emancipation] is unprecedented. And those opportunities are globally present and plentiful.”
