Charlie Kirk raises eyebrows with talk of building a ‘citizen force’ to help protect border

Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk raised eyebrows during his podcast Friday when he suggested the creation of a “citizen force” to patrol the Texas-Mexico border amid a new surge of Haitian migrants crossing illegally into the country.

After claiming Texas “allowed this to happen,” Kirk shifted gears and played a Fox News segment in which the network reported that the Biden administration has repatriated roughly 1,700 Haitians back to their country while allowing some 3,000 to remain and be released inside the U.S.

“Texas could have intervened and they could have usurped federal authority. They should have,” Kirk insisted, going on to say that he’s not being “too harsh” on the Lone Star State because they were “front and center, smack dab in the middle of the great question of our time, which is ‘who runs the country?’”

“I know so many amazing patriots in the great state of Texas, and I love Texas, that have been waiting and are willing for this moment,” he said.

“Deputize a citizen force, put them on the border, give them handcuffs, get it done. Sure that’s dramatic. You know what’s dramatic? The invasion of the country,” Kirk added.

“We’re going to talk more about that, we’re going to talk about how the other side has openly admitted that this is about bringing in voters that they want and that they like and honestly, diminishing and decreasing white demographics in America,” he said. “We’re going to say that part out loud, as so many people in the corporate media are afraid to talk about it.”

Kirk is not the first conservative to propose such a radical solution.

For weeks, Fox News host Tucker Carlson has criticized Texas Gov. Greg Abbott for refusing to mobilize his state’s National Guard and deploy them along the border to staunch the free flow of migrants, after Department of Homeland Security estimates put the number of illegal encounters at record numbers for several straight months, totaling at least 1.3 million since President Joe Biden took office in January.

“What is preventing Governor Abbott, who I think wants to be re-elected, hard to imagine, but I think he does. Why isn’t he sending them tonight?” Carlson asked Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, who was a guest on his program in June.

“I think he’s the only one who can answer that question, honestly. I don’t know why he doesn’t and I don’t have that answer,” Miller said.

More recently, Carlson interviewed former U.S. congressman and retired Army Lt. Col. Allen West, who is running against Abbott in the GOP primary next year, the same question.

West said he said down recently with “military planners” and said that Texas could quickly deploy “6-,7,000” troops from the Texas Military Department to “critical areas” along the Tex-Mex border. He also said it would be important to “establish a border control zone” so that federal authorities aren’t simply loading illegal aliens “onto buses” and “shipped out, ferreted across the state” as well as the broader United States.

West also said that Abbott’s administration could “revoke” the operating licenses of non-governmental organizations working with the federal government that are “aiding and abetting illegal immigration.”
