Jake Tapper, one of a select few CNN hosts known for being willing to sometimes direct criticism at Democrats versus sucking up to them all the time, made a critical observation about the Biden administration early Friday evening.
The host admitted that President Joe Biden is “not living up to” his promises to “restore” the United States’ once-strong relationships with its allies abroad.
He made the admission while speaking about bombshell news that the French government has recalled its ambassador to the United States over the anger it feels about the Biden administration’s treacherous behavior.
The administration effectively undercut the French by arranging a national security partnership with the U.K. and Australia to counter the threat China poses. The problem is that the deal voided a $90 billion submarine contract that France already had with Australia.
Worse, the administration reportedly arranged the partnership in secret.

Reporting live from Paris, France, CNN correspondent Melissa Bell told Tapper that the Biden administration’s move is unprecedented both in its treachery and its timing.
“Jake, this is the kind of move that is normally reserved for adversaries, not for allies. This is the very week when France was looking to celebrate the 240th anniversary of the Battle of Chesapeake that had ultimately led to American independence in which France had taken part, much more muted celebration as a result,” she said.
She added that the anger is widespread, because technically speaking, the secret deal wasn’t just a veritable diss to France; it was a veritable diss to all of Europe.
“Essentially here in France, it isn’t simply the many billions of euros that the submarine deal with Australia that it lost, its cost. It is much more for Europe. What it means that they hadn’t even heard about it until they heard about it on live TV Wednesday night,” she explained.
“The president of the European Commission had gone with her state of the union that day just to speak about how Europe is united, it wants to be a major player on the world stage. That really stole her thunder. It wasn’t just about the money to the French. It is actually in the end about the snub to Europe in general,” she added.
“No one in Europe had been informed of the fact that that deal would be dropped and that that new alliance would be created. And I think that has ruffled a lot of feathers — the lack of communication,” Bell continued.
“In fact, the French foreign minister went as far as to say this is the kind of lack of warning and of change of mind that we expected under the Trump administration that we had not expected under the Biden administration,” she added.
This is the second time in just a month that the president has outraged America’s European allies. The first time happened after the president rudely dismissed pleas from other G7 leaders last month to extend the Afghanistan withdrawal date.
“In the end it took only seven minutes for Joe Biden to pour salt into the wounds of his fractured relationship with European leaders, telling them firmly on a video call that he would not extend the 31 August deadline for US troops to stay in Kabul, as he had been asked by the French, Italians and most of all the British,” The Guardian reported at the time.
“For Europe the episode has been a rude awakening, and a moment of sober reassessment,” the outlet added.

Continuing her remarks to Tapper, Bell indeed noted that the debacle this week “plays into fears that Europe has had these last few weeks over, for instance, the withdrawal from Afghanistan, that in terms of dealing with allies, they expected the United States would come back. And they now understand that it will not.”
“The idea that both the U.S. ambassador to France and — sorry, the French ambassador to the U.S. and the French ambassador to Australia will be recalled. I think it’s a sign of just how badly Europeans had taken this,” she added.
Concurring with her assessment, Tapper then dropped the truth bomb: “President Biden was elected promising to restore these alliances. It seems to be not living up to that.”
While some conservatives appreciated the soft mea culpa, others were a bit more cynical about the late admission, especially in light of Tapper’s subtle suggestion — made via the use of the word “seems” — that Biden has met some of his promises.
what promise has he lived up to?

@JakeTapper “restore” the alliance with France? Lying buffoon. There WAS one until Biden. He destroyed it.
Stop licking Biden’s backside and try to remember what it was like to be a newsman before it is too late.
