Meghan McCain appears to take veiled dig at ‘The View’ in announcement of ‘censor free’ new gig

After leaving ‘The View’ earlier this summer, Meghan McCain did not remain unemployed for long. She announced her new gig on Thursday, which she claims will allow her to offer unfettered opinions.

“I am so excited to work in a completely uncensored space,” McCain announced on Twitter to her nearly 800,000 followers. Whether that comment amounts to a veiled allusion to some behind-the-scenes, free-speech restrictions imposed at the ABC TV show is speculative, but it will interesting to see if any further clarity emerges.

To be more specific, the high-traffic Daily Mail website has named McCain, 36, as a columnist. “Everything in my life these days is about going back to basics. I started as a columnist & am thrilled at the chance to return to it,” she asserted.

McCain described herself as a longtime avid reader of DailyMail.com and that she “always respected the way [it] tackles issues across the entire political spectrum” and that “I’m looking forward to sharing my own opinions without fear or favor on the important issues that matter to our readers across the globe.”

Her first column is set to appear on or around September 20.

“I’ve always been impressed with Meghan’s ability to generate discussion and debate and I look forward to her columns tackling what Americans are talking about,” Daily Mail publisher and editor-in-chief Martin Clarke said about his new hire.

Although she often bought into their narratives to some degree, McCain famously had a contentious relationship with the liberal ladies on The View, a show that just kicked off its 25th season, over their fundamental political differences, particularly with co-host Joy Behar.

It may or may not have been an initial expectation, but it turned out that McCain’s Never Trump bona fides hardly provided a safe space from negative feedback and liberal ridicule either on the New York City-based show, on social media, or in the corporate media generally.

The new mom now lives in D.C. with husband Ben Domenech, the occasional ‘Fox News Primetime’ host who is the co-founder and publisher of The Federalist, and their daughter Liberty.

Meghan McCain was a fangirl for then-presidential-candidate and family friend Joe Biden. She has apparently changed her tune, however, as a result of the Afghanistan disaster.

“This is extremely difficult for me to say: I once thought I truly knew Joe Biden and he helped me through pain and grief, for which I am grateful. This man on tv giving this speech, I do not recognize this man. God help our country. God help the Americans we have abandoned,” she wrote on August 31.

Hard feelings obviously persisted between the McCain family and former President Trump.

While in office, Trump was legitimately critical Sen. McCain for withholding the crucial vote for a full Obamacare repeal at the 11th hour, despite McCain campaigning against the Affordable Care Act.

In the absence of Meghan McCain who left the show after four seasons, The View says that, for now, it will fill the so-called conservative chair with a rotating group of co-hosts. The roster is set to include Condoleezza Rice, Gretchen Carlson, Eboni K. Williams, Mary Katharine Ham, Carly Fiorina, Alyssa Farah, Cameran Eubanks, and S.E. Cupp.

The common denominator is that most, if not all, of them are Never Trumpers, and some aren’t conservative by any reasonable metric.

The reaction was mixed on social media after Meghan McCain shared her career news. Here is just a small sample:
