An MSNBC host perhaps inadvertently reminded Meghan McCain that her Never Trump credentials will hardly provide a safe space from liberal ridicule.
“How dare you? From now on, I hope you speak less and listen more and take a little time to enjoy this view,” Tiffany Cross concluded in a segment about The View panelist and purported nepotism beneficiary criticizing identity politics.
The left-wing host of The Cross Connection was reacting to a segment on McCain’s daytime chat show about Democrat Senators Tammy Duckworth and Mazie Hirono complaining about the lack of Asians among Biden’s senior appointees.
McCain chimed in with a rhetorical question about which View co-host would step down from the show to make room for someone of Asian heritage to increase representation from that constituency.
“Is identity politics more important than qualifications of a job,” McCain wondered.
By itself, that’s a legitimate question, but conservatives and liberals might probably find an area of rare agreement that McCain seems to the wrong person to be asking it.
Cross — who pays a lot of attention to Meghan’s coiffure — wasn’t having it, describing “Princes Meghan” as someone “whose talent as far as I can tell is finding great black hairstylists and benefitting from nepotism.”
“Yes. One of you should definitely lose your job. I’ll give you two guesses, but you’ll only need one,” Cross quipped.
“So first, not sure if you guys know this or not because she’s really shy about bringing it up, but Meghan happens to be the daughter of the late Republican senator John McCain, but don’t tell anyone because obviously she’d never want to bring that up every five minutes in lieu of having actual intellectual exchange,” Cross continued sarcastically, along with a funny montage of Meghan video clips mentioning “my father” over and over.
Without agreeing with Cross’s ideology, those on the MAGA side of things might consider this McCain-mocking segment a form of poetic justice.
Cross then went on to provide a history lesson about the feminist origin of the term identity politics, adding: “But just like with hairstyles, Meghan, we’ve watched you take it, twist it, braid it, and lock it so it benefits the warped presentation of your own clumsy and ill-informed thoughts. Now, name me any group that does not bring their identity into the ballot box?” Cross wondered.
Later in the segment, Cross implied that Meghan McCain was engaging in projection (which, ironically, is something liberals typically excel in):
“Now let’s address this preposterous notion that somehow being a woman of color suggests that you aren’t qualified? I actually understand why you may feel this way, perhaps you assume that a person’s ethnic identity may afford them some advantage. It’s called projection. when one unconsciously ascribes traits that you don’t like about yourself and attribute them to someone else, like — I don’t know– if my only talent was who I was related to, I may assume that everyone else had some similar, unfair advantage…”
“So the same way spoiled little gun-toting, faux-Christian narcissists get to make demands on their chosen politicians, so too do those of us who helped pave the way for [the Biden] administration…”
Cross then concluded the segment by claiming that she had to claw and fight her way into a broadcast media position.
Tiffany Cross is the same journalist, as the term is currently known, who recently proposed that the FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C., should be renamed for Stacey Abrams.
