Gutfeld’s one-of-a-kind Trump interview gets awkwardness out the way right upfront

Fox News host Greg Gutfeld scored an exclusive sit-down interview with former President Donald Trump who praised his tremendous ratings and then proceeded to rip President Biden over the bloody Afghanistan disaster.

“Your ratings are fabulous. I just saw you are the king of late-night,” Trump glowingly stated. “You are beating some very untalented people, to be honest with you so I’m not sure how great that is – But they are so bad. It’s about time somebody came in and you’re really beating them badly.”

Trump and Gutfeld are fans of one another but it wasn’t always that way. “The Five” host was a critic of Trump during his campaign and early on during his administration.

“There was a brief period where you were not a fan – and then you started noticing things were getting done. You said ‘I may not like him but look, we have a good economy, we have good military; we have good everything’,” Trump noted. “And then you started – and now I think, I don’t know if it’s love but it’s getting close.”

Gutfeld replied that it is more of a feeling of deep “admiration.” He also remarked that he originally focused more on the “words and not the deeds” but he has changed his point of view, which is much more centered on results.

Gutfeld pointed out that instead of “mean tweets” we now “have a really nice president and the country is in the crapper.”

“I don’t know if he is a nice president,” Trump responded. “But I can tell you the country has never been more unsafe – we have people pouring in through the southern border, which people are forgetting about because of the travesty of Afghanistan.”

“If you introduce friction on the border, you reduce immigration. They don’t understand that,” Gutfeld posited.

Instead of a lack of understanding of cause-and-effect, Trump believes it’s more of an issue of “gross incompetence” on Biden and his administration’s part.

“The only thing good for them about Afghanistan is it makes what they’re doing at the border look good,” the former president said. “Because that was the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. ‘We don’t want a wall, we don’t want this, just let people come through’. It’s a disaster. It was the safest border we ever had.”

In true form, Trump asserted that it is better to be feared than be respected.

“They don’t fear [Biden],” he said concerning the Taliban.

“It’s a question of respect and being smart: I dealt with Abdul — He’s now the head of Taliban and was the head of the Taliban when I dealt with him,” Trump remarked. “I started off very tough. ‘You’re going to pay tremendous consequences…’ It was bad – and they understood what I said – and there was no way they were going to do anything to us – we could have taken our time, one year or two years [to withdraw].”

“People are getting in by the hundreds and by the thousands and these are not the people necessarily that wanted the protection. So many terrorists are coming in. They pushed their way onto the plane,” Trump stated, referring to unvetted Afghan refugees.

The former president was also understandably horrified and angered when watching the Taliban cavort in American Apache helicopters that Biden abandoned in Afghanistan.

“I can’t even get a gun in New York,” Gutfeld quipped. “I could’ve joined the Taliban and I could’ve gotten a helicopter.”

“I saw that the other day,” Trump commented. “We can’t have guns, but the Taliban, they can have 27 each.”

Trump later urged Americans to get the jab after Gutfeld confided in him that his wife is hesitant to get the COVID vaccination as many in the country are.

“I got vaccinated and I feel very good, and I think we saved millions and millions of people worldwide [with the vaccine development],” Trump declared.

“I think we could have been into that situation because it was very bad. And now if you’re vaccinated and if you do get sick, you don’t get sick like they were before — meaning, you don’t die,” he stated. “So I would recommend [it], but I would also say, let her have her freedom. With you she needs freedom.”

The conversation also addressed the persecution that Trump faced while in office.

“I had to survive. The survival was much tougher. I had fake Mueller people coming after me … And it began when I came down the escalator [in Trump Tower in Manhattan],” he recalled.

The Fox News host told Trump at one point in the interview, “There was an irrational response to you. And I lost friends when I would defend you.”

“But you also gained friends,” Trump replied.

“Yeah, you gain friends,” Gutfeld admitted. “I didn’t listen to my family members who were voting for you… When I turned and started listening, then I lost all of my other friends.”

He went on to ask Trump, “Did it bother you to see the friends that you’ve had — lose these friends because you became president and they didn’t like what you were doing or became emotionally and irrationally kind of unhinged? Trump delusional, derangement syndrome.”

“Why did people respond emotionally to you rather than rationally?” Gutfeld wondered.

“It must be my personality,” Trump joked.

“We did a great job. I rebuilt the military. All that beautiful stuff, that brand-new stuff. And you know who has it now? The Taliban: I built it for the Taliban… it’s a disgrace,” Trump angrily said in regards to Biden’s botched withdrawal.
