Anxious WH staffers cringe, mute TV when Biden speaks fearing he’ll take questions, officials say

Some anxious White House staffers reportedly turn off the TV or mute it when President Biden comes on because they fear his gaffes, that he’ll actually take questions, or that he will veer off message according to officials.

“I know people who habitually don’t watch it live for that reason,” said one White House official according to Politico.

It’s an open secret that Biden’s advisers have pleaded with him to not take questions and to answer as few as possible when doing briefings, making speeches, or speaking at events. Unfortunately for them, Biden often takes questions and at times loses his temper with reporters. His gaffes and missteps are legendary.

Last week when addressing FEMA, he stated, “I’m not supposed to take any questions, but go ahead.” It’s an excuse you frequently hear from the President. He is known for mumbling, forgetting what he is saying or where he’s speaking, not remembering names, and veering wildly off-topic.

Biden mistakenly referred to Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer as “Jennifer” during an event in August. In March, he referred to “President” Harris when speaking about Vice President Kamala Harris. He’s made that gaffe more than once.

A number of his statements also don’t make much sense. On Tuesday, Biden stated during a briefing concerning Hurricane Ida that tornadoes are called something else now.

“The members of Congress know, from their colleagues in Congress, that, uh, you know, the, looks like a tornado, they don’t call them that anymore, that hit the crops and wetlands in the middle of the country, in Iowa and Nevada. It’s just across the board,” Biden said during a press conference in New Jersey. Actually, Nevada is not in the middle of the country either.

“A lot of times, we say, ‘Don’t take questions,’” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told Democratic strategist David Axelrod on his podcast “The Axe Files” in May. “But he’s going to do what he wants to do because he’s the president of the United States.”

Biden has especially caused grief for the White House during question and answer sessions recently on Afghanistan. He told reporters that a Taliban takeover of the country was “highly unlikely.” That came back to haunt him and fast as a month later the Islamic militant group overtook the entire country in less than two weeks.

He also claimed that al Qaeda was “gone” from Afghanistan which wasn’t true and he made the ridiculous claim that he’d seen “no question of our credibility” from allies when they had frequently done exactly that.

The President attempts to spin his mistakes as well. He asserted that he flubbed scripted remarks when he said 90 percent of Americans from Afghanistan had been evacuated when he should have said 98 percent. Many contend that neither number is even close to being accurate.

Biden is also known for simply turning his back and walking out when he doesn’t like a question. He’s done it a number of times just recently.

“As the President has shown over and over since he announced his candidacy more than two years ago, he’s the most effective communicator for his vision and his agenda,” Rapid Response Director Michael Gwin told Politico’s West Wing Playbook attempting to spin his speaking with the press. “The President deeply values the role of the press – that’s why he regularly takes time to answer their questions in interviews, press conferences, and the dozens of media availabilities he’s done since taking office.”

Many Americans believe that the President is being controlled by his communications team and others. He also ostensibly uses the excuse that he’s not allowed to take questions to ostensibly provide him cover so he won’t make high-profile gaffes that make him look foolish or senile.

A number of Republicans have stated that Biden’s public appearances indicate the 78-year-old president is no longer fit for office.

“I think he’s either going to resign — they’re going to convince him to resign from office at some point in the near future for medical issues — or they’re going to have to use the 25th Amendment to get rid of this man,” Texas Rep. Ronny Jackson, a former White House physician, declared in July.

Many Americans can relate to White House staffers in regard to Biden speaking:
