The U.S. Army’s head of Training and Doctrine Command posted a photo to her Twitter page of snoozing troops aboard a cargo plane on a flight out of Afghanistan, in which she gave a shout-out and a thank-you for a job well done to these “American hero’s.”
Only, they weren’t U.S. troops — they were British.
Also, the tweet contained a grammatical error.
“This picture worth 1000 words — thanks to these American hero’s [sic] #Grateful,” Lt. Gen. Maria Gervais wrote in a Twitter posted on Saturday morning.

“Lieutenant General Maria Gervais thinks these are American troops. They’re not. They’re British,” Republican operative Arthur Schwartz tweeted along with the offending tweet from the three-star.
It appears as though Gervais has since deleted the tweet, though a screengrab of it made the rounds on social media in the hours after her initial post. But later, she did correct the record in response to a tweet from Britain’s 16th Air Assault Brigade, which appears to have been the unit pictured in the U.S. general’s initial tweet.
“This was a tough dangerous mission — couldn’t have done it without you and all our partners. Apologize up front for mistake,” she wrote.

Nevertheless, Gervais was waylayed online for her initial post.
Social media users offering up their takes included retired Marine Jessie Jane Duff, a Newsmax contributor and the co-chair of Trump 2020 campaign’s Veterans for Trump.
“Yikes. A 3 star general at that. My Marines woulda’ submitted my retirement papers for me if I did that,” she wrote, adding this dig at the Biden administration’s stranding of Americans in Afghanistan: “Maybe that’s why the military left so many Americans behind – the generals didn’t recognize them.”
“Almost equally concerning, what are ‘hero’s?'” another user pointed out.
“You can tell by the weapon system. It’s plain as day,” Jevon O. A. Williams, a combat vet and former minority leader for the U.S. Virgin Islands Board of Elections, added, noting that the troops in the picture were carrying SA-80 rifles, which are standard-issue for British soldiers. Meanwhile, U.S. Army soldiers are issued M-4s.
“That’s not Ricky Gervais is it?” another user quipped, referencing the British comedian.
“The more senior the person, the less they need to Tweet,” added another.
Several other users also responded.
Does she not know what kind of guns we use🤣

Is it surprising that someone who can’t even spell heroes correctly would fail to recognize any?

We pause to note LTG Gervais runs the US Army Training & Doctrine Command.
There are so many directions to go with that sentence, I don’t know where to begin.
So I’ll just leave it at that.

WASN’T IT THE RIFLE A CLUE?
— RedStormRising152 (@PatiotRedStorm) September 5, 2021
Irony: She’s the chief of staff and deputy commander for . . . training and doctrine (TRADOC) for the @USArmy. Way to go, #ARMY. No more #USMC crayon jokes for you until you train your generals to recognize their own rifles.

The error-filled tweet comes as Pentagon leaders fall increasingly under scrutiny over their inability, after 20 years, to notch a victory in Afghanistan, as well as the focus of senior leaders like Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark Milley on so-called “woke” educational curriculum for troops and officers alike.
Also, the Pentagon, as well as President Joe Biden as commander-in-chief, were blasted following the death of 13 service members from a suicide bomber attack last week in Kabul, which only served to further highlight the chaotic withdrawal from the war-torn country.
