There’s little doubt the liberal media complex has dubbed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis public enemy one with Donald Trump currently on the sideline, as 60 Minutes proved a while back, but the Republican governor is facing yet another concerted campaign to smear him in the face of the recent surge of the COVID-19 Delta variant.
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough was eager to do his part to carry water for the Democratic Party, but reached so far that he may require medical attention. You see, according to Scarborough, by taking a principled stand in favor of Floridians having the freedom to choose for themselves, DeSantis may be a “socialist.”
At issue is an executive order that DeSantis, a father of three young children, signed that allows parents to decide whether their children will wear masks at school.
“In Florida, there will be no lockdowns, there will be no school closures, there will be no restrictions and no mandates in the state of Florida,” the governor said on Friday.
“Sounds like a socialist to me,” Scarborough said. “When you’re a governor of a state, and you’re telling businesses, small businesses that they can’t run their businesses the way they want to run their businesses, to keep their stores safe the way they think they can keep their stores safe, and also when you’re telling local school boards, banning them from taking safety measures in their own areas.”
“Florida is like five different states,” he continued. “So to tell somebody in Broward county, a local school board in Broward county, that they must do the same thing that happens in Walton county, ten hours, twelve hours away, it’s just ridiculous big government, one size fits all socialism. It doesn’t make any sense.”
CNN and MSNBC proved early on with Donald Trump that their talking heads can pretty much level whatever outlandish remark they choose so long as it’s directed at the right target, but Scarborough’s spin on reality was downright silly.
The Morning Joe crew ran a clip of President Joe Biden reading Tuesday words his handlers placed on the teleprompter before him, where he goes after DeSantis and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott — the political attack clearly thrilled Mrs. Joe Scarborough.
“Some governors aren’t willing to do the right thing to beat this pandemic; then they should allow businesses and universities who want to do the right thing to be able to do it,” he said. “I say to these governors, please help. But if you’re not going to help, at least get out of the way of the people who are trying to do the right thing.”
It’s not by accident that the president repeated the phrase “the right thing” three times in the short statement, as the progressive left seizes the moral high ground to push it’s radical agenda on America. The right thing in this case being forcing residents to wear masks and get vaccinated.
The ultimate irony here is that as Biden berates Texas and Florida, the came corrupt media that looks the other way to one million-plus migrants having already crossed into the U.S. illegally this year, they also ignore Border Patrol union leaders declaring that even when testing positive for COVID-19, migrants are being released into the continental U.S.
And with Florida becoming the epicenter of the latest surge, there’s zero intellectual curiosity about the possible impact the open border could be having.
Last week, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis visited the southern border with Mexico along with Gov. Abbott and said afterward that he was told that 70% of illegal immigrants apprehended in that sector said Florida was their ultimate destination.
“They’ve made over 2,000 apprehensions, over 100 felony arrests, and they say that almost 70% of everybody that they have interdicted said their ultimate destination was the state of Florida,” DeSantis said at a press conference.
It seems very plausible that this has the potential of being a superspreader event.
The Morning Joe co-hosts ran an early poll suggesting that DeSantis was trailing in his reelection effort to U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist, D-Fla. Floridians can tell you that the former governor, who was a Republican before becoming an independent, before becoming a Democrat and running for Congress, is not winning the governor’s race.
Scarborough claimed at one point that DeSantis is running for president, prompting wife Mika Brzezinski to let slip that “he’s got to win the fight against the coronavirus” first, stopping short of adding that this fight is not against the virus so much as it is against the Democratic Party and their media allies exploiting the current surge.
