McCain puts COVID fears into perspective: ‘Higher likelihood of getting shot’ in D.C.

ABC’s “The View” discussed the reemergence of mask mandates around the country on Friday as the delta variant of the coronavirus sees surges across the country, but token conservative host, Meghan McCain says she has a “higher likelihood of getting shot” than contracting the virus.

McCain, who was located in Washington, D.C., responded to co-host Joy Behar who asked whether or not Americans should manage their expectations about re-opening following the release of updated data and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

As viral infection rates have increased, crime rates have surged across the country– but Democrats and left-leaning media outlets have given little air time to the violent crime wave, opting instead to discuss the virus.

“Quite frankly, I have a higher likelihood of getting shot leaving this building than I do of getting Covid,” McCain noted, citing “From July 14th to the 28th, there were four Covid deaths and 11 homicides in Washington, D.C.”

“From July 14-28 there were four COVID deaths and 11 homicides in Washington, D.C.” McCain pointed out, saying she wished there was more energy coming from Democrats on the issue of crime.

“There’s a lot of problems, and there are a lot of ways to die, but I wish that Democrats would care about that as well,” the conservative said.

In terms of Americans managing their expectations, McCain said it seems there is no “going back to normal” and that continued lockdowns and mandates will be America’s new normal until there is a leadership change.

“I think that the White House should be honest with the American public and say that there is no going back to normal, and that taking off the mask was just a ruse. There will probably be lockdowns, and again, Americans who want to live, as I said yesterday, this is literally going to become a state by state issue, and if you don’t want to live under masking and you don’t want to live under these mandates, unfortunately, you’re probably going to have to move to a state where they’re not going to do it — like in Arizona,” McCain told co-host, Behar.

For now, the conservative pundit is not hopeful that America will be able to pull out of this, instead “there’s just going to be more variants.” She cited former Obama advisor, David Axelrod who said that “it’s really hard to incentivize people once you’ve had something taken away in politics.”

The controversial data that the CDC is using to base their recommendation upon has many Republican legislators up in arms. McCain advised that if the White House really wants to show they are being bipartisan, they should give a little credit to President Trump.

McCain noted her own disdain for the former president but credited him with a successful “Fast and Furious” vaccine program that the Biden administration refuses to talk about.

If the Biden administration is looking for real ways to make an impact and improve vaccination rates, McCain suggested inviting Trump to the White House to speak directly to his supporters.

“Nobody’s gagging him,” Behar responded speaking of Trump.

“I think it would be nice to see a bipartisan push formally together. It’s just never going to happen,” McCain said.

Friday marked McCain’s last episode of “The View.” She announced her departure earlier this year saying the pandemic “dramatically” changed the way she wants to live her life.

Last week, White House press secretary Jen Psaki was asked if President Biden would ever collaborate with Trump to make a public service announcement to encourage Americans to get vaccinated. She responded that Trump did not need an “embroidered invitation”.
