A left-wing social justice activist organization, Dallas Justice Now, is asking affluent white liberals in areas like Highland Park to sign a pledge to commit to not sending their children to Ivy League or US News & World Report Top 50 schools.
The idea being that it will open up more opportunities for marginalized students of color.
“Our pledge was brought about by the need to give kids in our community educational opportunities that we have been denied for centuries,” proclaimed Dallas Justice Now founder Michele Washington, according to Dallas City Wire.
After all, equity is all about “privileged” white folks making sacrifices, the difference here being that DJN is asking — for now, anyway.
“Many wealthy white folks including those who live in the 95% white Park Cities think they are allies because they put up a Black Lives Matter sign or parade black people like animals at their charity galas that somehow they aren’t part of the problem,” the group founder told the website. “They are the problem. If whites want to be our allies, they MUST make sacrifices.”
Letters were reportedly mailed to wealthy areas reminding Democrat residents that they “earned or inherited” their money “through oppressing people of color.”
“We are writing to you because we understand you are white and live within the Highland Park Independent School District and thus benefit from enormous privileges taken at the expense of communities of color,” the letter said, according to Dallas City Wire. “You live in the whitest and wealthiest neighborhood in Dallas, whether you know it or not, you earned or inherited your money through oppressing people of color.”
“However, it is also our understanding that you are a Democrat and supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement, which makes you one of our white allies and puts you in a position to help correct these cruel injustices,” it continued. “We need you to step up and back up your words with action and truly sacrifice to make our segregated city more just.”
The DJN College Pledge reads:
As a white person with privilege both from my whiteness and my neighborhood I recognize the need to make sacrifices for the purpose of correcting hundreds of years of murder, slavery, discrimination, and lack of educational and economic opportunities perpetrated upon people of color. I understand that access to top schools is a key component in economic and social advancement. Therefore, I commit that my children will not apply to or attend any Ivy League School or US News & World Report Top 50 School so that position at that school is available for people of color to help correct historical wrongs. If I do not have children under 18 then I will commit to encouraging my white privileged friends, neighbors, and family members with children to sign the pledge and holding them accountable until they do so.
At the end of the pledge page, DJN urged people not to be “a racist hypocrite,” and warned that it “will be publicly announcing the names of those who have and have not signed the pledge.”
Washington did acknowledge that “there are some racist voices who have opposed the pledge.”
She also said DJN will be unveiling an advisory council in the near future that will include Texas A&M professor Troy Harden, director of the Race and Ethnic Studies Institute at the college.
Popular social media user Kathleen McKinley tweeted: “These Democrat parents would walk across hot coals & plan a murder for the chance their kids go to an Ivy League or other top schools.”
I’m dead right now. 😂Highland Park is one of the richest areas in Texas. These Democrat parents would walk across hot coals & plan a murder for the chance their kids go to an Ivy League or other top schools. Then they get this from a Black Lives Matter Organization. 😂😂😂😂 pic.twitter.com/WlmxNRiPco

Here’s a sampling of responses to her tweet from Twitter:
Taken from their website: see that they will make public the names of those that take the pledge n those that do not. Fear n intimidation. That’s BLM pic.twitter.com/z5z5zng7Yk

The white privilege I see here is that they get to deny that pledge and I can’t since I am not white.

Thank god I had normal parents who were thrilled for me and congratulated me when I went to a Top 50 school.
Imagine working so hard in high school and you get to go to Brown or Yale, and your own parent says, “sorry, Little Sally, you’re white.”

I would have thought the better goal would be to raise everyone to a higher standard, not ask everyone to limit competition in such a way as to short circuit the meritocracy.

Trying to exclude people from education because of their skin colour, that sounds pretty racist.
But it’s okay, it’s good racism because they said so.

The irony here is that the pledge is so far over the top that many people are certain that it’s not real — but it is.
Yeah… I’m giving this 0% chance of being real… 10% chance it’s a gaslighting organization. That really…really wants this letter out in public.

I call “fake news” on this. It seems fake and is very convenient that you get to “own the libs and black lives matter” at the same time. Do Better

Is the letter legit? If not, it belongs in the trolling hall of fame!
