Fox News tears into NSA who now admits Tucker Carlson was unmasked: ‘entirely unacceptable … wildly misleading’

Fox News blasted the National Security Agency on Friday as a new report surfaced claiming that a government official had asked for Tucker Carlson’s identity to be unmasked but asserted that he was not targeted, calling it “entirely unacceptable.”

Fox News released a scathing statement taking severe issue with the unmasking of Carlson. Conservative author Mark Steyn read it on-air while filling in as host of “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Friday.

“For the NSA to unmask Tucker Carlson or any journalist attempting to secure a newsworthy interview is entirely unacceptable and raises serious questions about their activities as well as their original denial, which was wildly misleading,” the network proclaimed.

Basically investigating itself internally, the agency completed a review of Carlson’s allegations that the agency had spied on him and was trying to have him taken off the air. Not surprisingly, they found no evidence of that according to the cybersecurity news outlet The Record, which cited two anonymous sources.

The NSA previously denied spying on Carlson. The agency posits that his emails and communications were not intercepted through “incidental collection.” That process is used when an intelligence agency seeks to obtain communications involving a U.S. citizen and a foreign actor who is currently under surveillance. However, D.C. insiders told Carlson that the agency had been monitoring his communications and proceeded to quote from his personal emails, indicating that they had been spying on him personally.

All of this seems to have centered around a requested interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin that Carlson was attempting to set up. It appears that, although journalists frequently attempt to schedule an interview with the Russian strongman, Carlson was singled out because he is a conservative.

The Record is reporting that their sources contend that Carlson was mentioned in communications between third parties and was “unmasked” at a government official’s request.

“On June 28, 2021, Tucker Carlson alleged that the National Security Agency has been ‘monitoring our electronic communications and is planning to leak them in an attempt to take this show off the air.’ This allegation is untrue. Tucker Carlson has never been an intelligence target of the Agency and the NSA has never had any plans to try to take his program off the air. NSA has a foreign intelligence mission. We target foreign powers to generate insights on foreign activities that could harm the United States. With limited exceptions (e.g. an emergency), NSA may not target a US citizen without a court order that explicitly authorizes the targeting,” the agency originally stated.

Carlson did not buy the claims by the NSA and neither did Fox News. He publically alleged that the agency leaked his private emails to journalists “in an effort to discredit him.”

The Fox News host reported that “we heard from a whistleblower within the U.S. government who reached out to warn us that the NSA … is monitoring our electronic communications and is planning to leak them in an attempt to take this show off the air.”

The conservative host said his source was someone “who is in a position to know” and had “repeated back to us information about a story that we are working on that could have only come directly from my texts and emails.”

“The NSA captured that information without our knowledge and did it for political reasons,” he said. “The Biden administration is spying on us. We have confirmed that.”

The NSA was torched on social media for their duplicity in spying on Carlson:
