Texas Democrat State Rep. Michelle Beckley was torched on Twitter for bragging about her “bravery” after abandoning her state and fleeing to Washington, D.C. with over 50 of her colleagues to deny a quorum on voter integrity legislation.
She’s now thrown her hat into the ring to unseat a Texas Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives, labeling her opponent as “anti-democracy.”
“I’m a Democrat. I’m a Texan. I’m running for Congress in one of the most competitive districts in the country. And I need your help to flip this seat. Please watch, retweet, and follow this account to join our campaign,” Beckley tweeted including a less-than-captivating campaign video.
“I’m one of the brave Texas Democrats who came to D.C. to fight for voting rights in my state. Now, I’m fighting to flip a seat held by an anti-democracy Republican. I have 28,500. Can you help us get to 50,000 followers?” she tweeted. Beckley followed that tweet with one telling people where they can contribute to her campaign.

In her campaign video, the former mayor of Irving, Texas states, “Generations of Americans have come to Washington, D.C., to learn about our democracy. I came here with over 50 of my colleagues to save it. Leaving our families behind to block Texas’s voter suppression bill.”
Radio host Jason Rantz mocked Beckley and scathingly tweeted, “My name is Jason Rantz. I’m the smartest, wittiest, bravest, and most attractive, charitable, compassionate & humble talk show host in the Pacific Northwest. Remember: never make eye contact & I’ll only drink water with added electrolytes. Now give me money & Twitter follows.”

Other conservatives lined up to call Beckley out on her “bravery” assertion.
Conservative pundit Stephen Miller slammed the Democrat over her tweet, writing: “Because Texans love politicians campaigning for local seats from Washington DC. Also killing people.”

The Texas Chairman of the Republican Party Matt Rinaldi was cheerfully sarcastic, “Good to hear Democrats have given up on @Bethvanduyne’s seat.”

By early Wednesday, Beckley’s followers increased on Twitter from 28,500 to 33,700. That is an extremely low level of followers for a politician who has been around as long as Beckley has.
She will go up against U.S. Rep. Beth Van Duyne, a Republican in the state’s 24th Congressional District, in the 2022 midterm elections. The grasping politico is extremely unlikely to beat Van Duyne.
Beckley took aim at Van Duyne for objecting to the 2020 election results after the Jan. 6 riot. “One of her first acts of Congress was to vote in favor of throwing out millions of ballots to help Trump steal the election. And one of her latest? Asking us to just get over it and move on. Beth Van Duyne can walk away from her duty to defend Democracy, but not me,” Beckley said.
Andrea Corker, who is a campaign spokeswoman for Van Duyne, told Fox News via email: “Beth remains focused on helping North Texans earn new job opportunities and take care of their families while Democrats sort out who is the biggest extremist in their primary campaign.”
The other Republican whom Democrats are targeting in Texas for the 2022 midterm elections is Rep. Tony Gonzales of Texas’s 23rd District
Beckley was widely and vigorously mocked on Twitter for her “bravery”:
Her name is Michelle Beckley and she loves to tell lies! Fitting right in w/todays DEM party! She knows no 1 is trying to stop ne1 from voting! We are trying 2 make it harder to cheat! Please donate to whomever she's trying to challenge! https://t.co/U2HXov44mu

What bravery it must have taken Michelle Beckley to flee to Washington. Since she’s been there, she’s been wined, dined, and forced to announce a run for Congress.
I will keep this bold legislator in my thoughts as she continues to battle in such dangerous trenches. 🙄 https://t.co/1qm7G8JFUm

Who introduces themselves as brave?
— Andy Lancaster (@andylancaster) July 21, 2021
I just want to know how someone calls themselves brave right after admitting they ran away from a vote they’d lose.
