Biden pushes ‘pandemic of unvaccinated’ narrative: ‘Virtually all Covid deaths come from unvaccinated’

President Joe Biden doubled down on his push to get Americans vaccinated following a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday in response to the uptick in coronavirus cases, saying “virtually all” coronavirus deaths and hospitalizations are from unvaccinated people.

“I know a number of folks are watching the numbers of cases rising again and wondering, quite frankly, what it means to them. But overall, COVID-19 deaths are down dramatically — about 90 percent down — due to our vaccination program, so I want to thank you all for the great job you did in getting that done,” Biden explained, touting his administration’s efforts to get Americans vaccinated.

“But we have to stay vigilant, especially with the Delta variant that’s out there,” Biden warned. “While COVID-19 cases are rising, virtually all of the COVID deaths and hospitalizations are from unvaccinated people. And that means the safest thing to do is get vaccinated, get vaccinated,” he pressed.

Biden said the push to get the unvaccinated, vaccinated “seems like a constant uphill climb” but that America is “gradually making progress.”

The president’s comments come after the Biden administration missed its target of 70 percent of American adults receiving at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine by July 4, 2021. The most recent data shows that two and a half weeks later, the United States still has not hit that mark. 68.3 percent of the adult population have received at least one dose of the vaccine while 59.6 percent are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC.

The Biden administration has employed several high-profile campaigns to encourage Americans to get the shot. Most recently, they invited teen pop star Olivia Rodrigo to the briefing room for a scripted appearance on vaccine efforts.

Last week, Biden told reporters how he felt about the misinformation surrounding the vaccine published on social media platforms like Facebook.

“They’re killing people. The only pandemic we have is among the unvaccinated and they’re killing people,” Biden said.

The CDC director reported that 97 percent of current hospitalizations are among the unvaccinated in a briefing on Friday. The majority of people dying from the virus remain older people or those with compromised immune systems.

The CDC however, is reportedly not tracking breakthrough COVID cases, meaning those infected despite being fully vaccinated.

The vaccine is still the number one defense against succumbing to the virus for most people, and breakthrough infections do not mean that the vaccines are ineffective.

In a briefing last week, press secretary Jen Psaki dodged multiple questions on whether or not President Biden would consider teaming up with former President Trump in an effort to reach and persuade unvaccinated Americans to get the “jab,” as Biden fondly calls it.
