Fresh off a trip to the southern border, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis doubled down on his criticism of the Biden administration’s immigration policy after he says he learned from border agents that the majority of the border-crossers they encounter are headed for DeSantis’ home state.
Fox News host Jesse Watters asked the Florida governor, who joined Fox News’ “Watter’s World” on Saturday, about the development from law enforcement who maintain that the majority of illegal aliens they encounter at the southern border along Del Rio, Texas are headed for Florida.
“So what they do is, our folks in Texas will stop and apprehend. When they get turned over to the Feds, what the Feds are basically doing is giving them a bus ticket and letting them go where they want to go,” DeSantis explained. “Now, our Florida folks who we’ve interdicted, our agencies, about 50 — more than 50 percent of the ones we’ve interdicted have said they ultimately have destination in Florida. It may be different in McAllen and some of the other parts, but that’s pretty striking because I knew that there would definitely be somebody — that people would want to come, but I didn’t think it would quite be at that level.”
DeSantis went on to describe the impact this kind of surge of migrants could have on his state.

“So this has big implications for our schools, our social services, all those other things. And yes, but it is the federal government putting them on a bus, sending them in different destinations,” the Florida governor said.
The federal government’s hand in this displacement of illegal immigrants goes farther than what was previously known, according to DeSantis who said the federal government will “fly some of the illegal migrants in the middle of the night to different destinations” and then put them up in federal facilities or with NGOs.
“They do not inform the states of this. We have to pull teeth just to try to find out, and a lot of times, it’ll be weeks after the fact. So, they do that basically secretly. There’s no public accountability for it at all. So, it’s really a combination of those two things. But make no mistake about it, this is a deliberate policy to allow illegal migrants to be able to go all across the country in violation of our laws,” DeSantis explained.
The Florida governor trashed President Biden’s border policies which have resulted in Customs and Border Patrol’s steadily increasing number of encounters with illegal aliens, reaching over one million this year alone.
Watters noted that his sources advised that the Biden administration is helping these illegal migrants get to swing states for political reasons and totally handicapping state governors.
“Once they get to Florida, you’re not a Federal agency, you’re not allowed to arrest them for being in this country illegally. That’s I.C.E.’s job… The Republic is collapsing, basically. I mean, I don’t want to — that’s not hyperbole. You have the governors fighting against the federal government to control the borders, and it’s not working.” Watters said.
DeSantis detailed Florida’s efforts to aid in the crisis on the border, sending law enforcement agents to the border after Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Arizona Governor Doug Ducey pleaded for the help of other states in June.
“Given the severity of the problem and given the fact that the Biden administration is doing next to nothing to curb it and so where the federal government is failing, Texas is having to step up, and then Florida and other states are helping. So, I have a contingent of more than 50 state law enforcement officers from across a variety of agencies that have now been here for almost a month working. We’re in the Del Rio part of Texas. And basically, this is a total disaster,” DeSantis said.
The governor noted that illegal migrants are coming to America now knowing that as long as they get across the border, they will be released by the Biden administration.
“There are people that are coming across that said, I know I couldn’t get across for the last four years. Now, I know anyone can get across,” DeSantis shared.
The Florida governor took to Twitter the same day to call out the Biden administration policies which he says are directly to blame for the crisis that could be eradicated if Trump-era immigration policies were reinstated.
“The disaster at our border is a direct result of the Biden Administration ending Trump border policies that curbed illegal immigration, the influx of drugs, and human smuggling,” he tweeted.

He also detailed the state’s efforts to help curb the crisis:

“When confronted by our deployed Florida law enforcement at the southern border, roughly 70% of illegal border crossers said that Florida was their ultimate desired destination. If allowed to continue by Biden, this mass migration will be a major strain on our social services, education, medical system, and taxpayers,” DeSantis warned in a Twitter thread.

DeSantis joined Governor Abbott in a visit to the Texas border on Saturday and participated in a press conference after to address the rising migrant crisis and to warn Americans that the surge in illegal aliens and illegal drugs like fentanyl over the border will eventually trickle down to impact other states.
