CNN “Reliable Sources” host Brian Stelter, whose show ratings are circling the drain, sat down for a cringeworthy interview with anti-Trump author Michael Wolff who proceeded to inform him that he was one of the reasons why people can’t stand the media.
On Sunday, when Stelter attempted to spring a gotcha on the author for taking a call from former President Donald Trump, the conversation morphed from Wolff generally trashing the media to eviscerating Stelter himself.
“But I don’t want you to think that what I said at that point was in any way inauthentic. I think the media has done a terrible job on this. I think you yourself, you know, while you’re a nice guy, you’re full of sanctimony. You become one of the parts of the problem of the media,” Wolff said, smacking Stelter down. “You know, you come on here and you have a monopoly on truth, you know exactly how things are supposed to be done. You are one of the reasons why people can’t stand the media. Sorry. It’s your fault.”
That was when a smirking Stelter began bizarrely laughing. Then he asked Wolff what he should do differently. The leftist author did not disappoint in his answer.

“Don’t talk so much,” Wolff admonished him. “Listen more. You know, people have genuine problems with the media. The media doesn’t get the story right. The media exists in its own bubble.”
Although Stelter did agree to that last part, he appeared to be subtly mocking his guest and leading him on. But Wolff wasn’t playing that game and instead dished out an honest opinion of the beleaguered talking head much to Stelter’s dismay. He even compared him to former President Trump.
“Also, you’re incredibly repetitive. It’s week after week, you’re the flipside of Donald Trump,” Wolff noted. “You know, ‘fake news,’ and you say ‘virtuous news.’ There’s a problem here.”
Stelter responded, “We just figure out what is real.”
“Figuring out what is real is not so easy, and most people don’t want to turn to Brian Stelter to tell us what’s real. I’m sorry,” Wolff clapped back.
Stelter smiled creepily, inappropriately laughed, and nodded during the entire segment.
In the end, Stelter asked Wolff why he came on CNN several times over the last week if he felt that way.
Wolff was blunt. “You know, I’m a book salesman,” he stated.
Earlier in the segment, Wolff went after Fox News as well.
In his latest book, “Landslide: The Final Days of the Trump Presidency,” the leftist author wrote on Fox News coverage of Election Night: “Lachlan [Murdoch’s son] got his father on the phone to ask if he wanted to make the early call. His father, with signature grunt, assented, adding, ‘F**k him.'”
Fox News released a statement immediately after the book was published and called the story “completely false.”
“Arnon Mishkin who leads the FOX News Decision Desk made the Arizona call on election night and FOX News Media President Jay Wallace was then called in the control room. Any other version of the story is wildly inaccurate,” a Fox News spokesperson declared.
Lots going on in this combative Stelter-Michael Wolff interview, but one thing that really stands out is Wolff saying he knows his book's Election Night claims about Rupert Murdoch/Fox are true just because he once wrote a Murdoch biography and "I know that this happened." pic.twitter.com/L1BUOush6N

Wolff went on to challenge Stelter, “You seem to want it to be true that Fox is questioning my reporting.”
“It is an interesting thing that week after week all you do is question Fox, question its veracity, question its honor, question et cetera et cetera, but suddenly now you think that they might be honest to a fault,” he posited seemingly referring to Stelter’s latest book “Hoax.”
Stelter asserted he “never questioned the decision desk.”
“I am Rupert Murdoch’s biographer,” Wolff declared.
“One of many,” Stelter remarked.
“No, not one of many. That’s totally ridiculous!” Wolff angrily replied. “I am the singular biographer … who was given enormous access to him. I am well-sourced throughout the company and throughout his family. … I know this happened.”
Reminding you that I am Murdoch's biographer with deep sourcing throughout his companies and family. Idea that Murdoch would be hands off on this is laughable–impossible! https://t.co/YpDd9er9dy

The interview was a collective cringe-fest and Twitter ran with it:
These theatrical ‘listening’ faces seem oddly rehearsed. How much time do you think he spends in the mirror perfecting these weird expressions? pic.twitter.com/dR2n0d6r8q
