Squad member Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) reportedly spent nearly $70,000 on private security during the last three months while she hypocritically called for defunding the police according to her campaign filing documents.
Between April 15 and June 28, her campaign doled out $54,120.92 in payments for “security services” to RSAT Security Consulting, a sketchy New York firm that touted a shadowy online presence until very recently. Federal Election Commission records also show that she paid $15,000 to Nathaniel Davis for “security services” over that same period.
That accounted for more than a third of Bush’s $197,000 in campaign expenditures that were recorded during the second quarter and it is almost double what she spent in the first three months of 2021.
While she was paying for heavy security to keep herself protected, Bush was hypocritically calling to defund the police. “Today’s decision to defund the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is historic,” Bush declared in a statement in April praising St. Louis for its “historic” move to defund the police. “It marks a new future for our city. For decades, our city funneled more and more money into our police department under the guise of public safety, while massively underinvesting in the resources that will truly keep our communities safe.”
Strangely, the website of RSAT is no longer active after being paid all that money. A cached version of the site reveals that the firm provides “executive protection agents” that provide “first-class executive protection and security for national and international figures.” It’s curious that they billed themselves as an international firm and then simply disappeared.
The company’s Facebook page claims that RSAT Security Consulting is led by a team with “50+ years of experience across national security, energy security, police, and military security operations.”
RSAT’s Instagram page showcases pictures of police officers, military members, and members of the Secret Service.
Another odd point is that the second security source, Nathaniel Davis, reports that his address is the same as Bush’s campaign headquarters in the filings.
Bush is a notorious advocate for defunding the police. In fact, it is one of the primary areas of focus for all Squad members. She claims that defunding the police is not a “radical” idea.
The Squad member was also ripped earlier this year for spending approximately $35,000 on security during the first three months of 2021. Those funds went to RSAT, Davis, and Whole Armor Executive Protection, a Maryland-based security firm. It’s almost a certainty that any security she contracts would include former police or security officers.
Unbelievably, Bush’s congressional office also forked out $880 a day in taxpayer funds for a security detail by RSAT while they also took checks from her campaign.
The rest of the Squad also got in on the security spending this year. Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Ayanna Pressley all spent campaign dollars on personal security details while pushing for defunding the police. But their spending paled in comparison to Bush’s.
Ocasio-Cortez spent just over $4,000 for her detail. Omar paid $2,800 to have someone watch her back and Pressley paid $3,500 for her protection according to FEC records.
