Joy Behar on anti-conservative tirade argues teens be given Covid vaccine despite ‘ignorant parents’

Joy Behar, the co-host of The View, insists that young teens should be able to get the COVID-19 vaccine behind their parents; back, if necessary, to avoid being at the “mercy” of “ignorant” moms and dads.

Whoopi Goldberg began the segment on the often-contentious daytime chat show by highlighting the firing of Tennessee’s top vaccine official for allegedly encouraging minors through public service ads and other forms of outreach to get the jab on their own without parental consent, which could be possible under state law for those 14 and above.

When Goldberg asked Behar if teens should take matters “into their own hands,” Behar — who has never been mistaken for any kind of genius — seemed quite supportive, while walking down memory lane.

“We like to think we’re smarter than our kids, but a lot of times, the kids are smarter than their parents. I mean, I’ve experienced my daughter have more sense than I had at various times in my life. So I would give them more credit.”

Behar, a Kamala Harris fan who seems to view most things through a political lens, then threw some shade at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

“When these kids are watching a room full of people at that CPAC convention applauding the fact that Biden is not gonna reach his vaccination goal, they’re applauding the freedom to get sick and die. They’re watching their parents…behave really stupidly, in my opinion. And I think that these kids should be allowed to make their own decisions, frankly.”

Separately, pundits like Tucker Carlson have wondered what happened to the left-wing “my body, my choice” philosophy when it comes to the decision, however, to decline the shot.

“I don’t wanna bring abortion into this,” Behar added, but then began immediately talking about abortion.

“Sometimes you have young girls who are afraid to tell their parents that they’re pregnant because some uncle has molested them or some horrible thing has happened to them, and they can’t get permission to get an abortion. And I think that kids, sometimes should have the ability to do what the science is telling them to do.”

Behar then made reference to the fired Tennessee official, Dr. Michelle Fiscus, as the TV host engaged in what some might interpret as condescending alarmism.

“According to Dr. Fiscus, the Tennessee Department of Health has now been instructed to stop promoting vaccines of any kind for children. I mean, ‘Let’s make measles great again,’ you know? ‘Bring back polio’? Is that what they want to do in these states? These kids are at the mercy of these ignorant parents, in my opinion, and yes, they should be allowed to do it,” Behar asserted.

Later in the segment, panelists Sunny Hostin and Sara Haines implied that parental oversight is generally necessary because some kids may be too young to make medical decisions.

Meghan McCain, who is on the way out of the show, similarly followed up by agreeing that 14-year-olds have different levels of maturity. Describing herself as pro-vaccine, and especially pro the “lifechanging” COVID vax, McCain also noted that the medicine was rushed out on an emergency basis and has not yet obtained FDA approval.

Through a spokesperson, GOP Gov. Bill Lee said that the agency “has not halted the Vaccines for Children Program that provides information and vaccine access to Tennessee parents. The department is mindful of ensuring parents, not kids, are the intended audience for any outreach efforts regarding medical decisions for children and has simply re-evaluated some tactics like reminder postcards and follow-up communications,” Fox News reported.

Dr. Fiscus apparently got into hot water with Republican lawmakers “after the memo by Dr. Fiscus was circulated to medical providers explaining a so-called mature minor doctrine, which allows doctors to treat patients between the ages of 14 and 18 without parental consent under a State Supreme Court ruling from 1987,” the New York Times reported.
