Black Lives Matter issued a statement via Twitter on Wednesday siding with the brutal Cuban communist regime while outrageously blaming the United States for the violence and protests taking place in the country.
Social media erupted and the Marxist organization faced intense backlash as it heaped praise on Cuba’s government despite the evidence that it is cracking down on people who are demanding freedom. Many prominent protesters have simply disappeared amid the violence and chaos.
The tweet from Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, Inc. blamed the U.S. embargo that is in place against Cuba for the unrest on the island. It also gave homage to the Cuban government because they grant “black revolutionaries” asylum. They are demanding that President Joe Biden take action.
In contrast, Cuban protesters waved American flags and marched in the streets of Tampa, Florida as they chanted, “Where is Biden?” and shouted “Cuba Libre!”

“Black Lives Matter condemns the U.S. federal government’s inhumane treatment of Cubans, and urges it to immediately lift the economic embargo,” the group stated. “This cruel and inhumane policy, instituted with the explicit intention of destabilizing the country and undermining Cubans’ right to choose their own government, is at the heart of Cuba’s current crisis. Since 1962, the United States has forced pain and suffering on the people of Cuba by cutting off food, medicine and supplies, costing the tiny island nation an estimated $130 billion.”
“Without that money, it is harder for Cuba to acquire medical equipment needed to develop its own COVID-19 vaccines and equipment for food production. This comes in spite of the country’s strong medical care and history of lending doctors and nurses to disasters around the world,” the statement claimed. “The people of Cuba are being punished by the U.S. government because the country has maintained its commitment to sovereignty and self-determination. United States leaders have tried to crush this Revolution for decades. Instead of international amity, respect, and goodwill, the U.S. government has only instigated suffering for the country’s 11 million people – of which 4 million are black and brown.”
“Cuba has historically demonstrated solidarity with oppressed peoples of African descent, from protecting black revolutionaries like Assata Shakur through granting her asylum, to supporting black liberation struggles in Angola, Mozambique, Guinea Bissau and South Africa. Now, we look to President Biden to end the embargo, something Barack Obama called for in 2016. This embargo is a blatant human rights violation and it must come to an end.” Black Lives Matter proclaimed, citing Shakur who is one of the FBI’s most wanted terrorists. She took asylum in the communist stronghold.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), who is of Cuban descent, took severe issue with the Black Lives Matter tweet.
“The extortionist ring known as the Black Lives Matter organization took a break today from shaking down corporations for millions & buying themselves mansions to share their support for the Communist regime in #Cuba,” Rubio angrily tweeted.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel is sending mixed signals over the protests but tellingly he had called on “revolutionaries” to counter the anti-government protesters. In a televised address, he admitted that the Cuban government had played a part in food shortages and other issues facing Cubans. But he didn’t address the issues of those who have suddenly disappeared, the reported violent attacks against protesters who are then thrown into dank prisons, or cutting off the internet to the Cuban people in order to isolate them.
At about the same time his statement was aired, Black Lives Matter sent out their tweet in support of the Cuban dictatorship. They echoed the sentiments of Diaz-Canel who also blamed the U.S. embargo for the economic catastrophe that the communists have created in Cuba.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), who is also of Cuban descent, took a strong stance with the Cuban protesters. He tweeted on Sunday his support for the thousands of Cubans taking to the streets for freedom. He contends that the communist regime will be “consigned to the dustbin of history.”
“It has brutalized & denied freedom to generations of Cubans, and forced my family & so many others to flee,” he stated. “The American people stand squarely with the men & women of Cuba and their noble fight for liberty.”

Giancarlo Sopo, a communication strategist who worked on former President Trump’s re-election campaign, said the BLM tweet was “disgusting.”
“Despite the Cuban dictatorship’s murdering and beating of protestors (many of them Black), BLM’s statement on Cuba…condemns the U.S., praises the Castro regime, and makes no mention of the atrocities being committed by the dictatorship,” he tweeted.

In Cuba, a repressive regime is firing on peaceful protesters.

There was a thunderous response on Twitter decrying the Black Lives Matter tweet:
"Cubans' right to choose their own government" has nothing to do with the government that is subject to the embargo.
Mozambique? A Marxist government that persecuted churches, plunged the country into a civil war & made a third of the population refugees? That Mozambique? https://t.co/xiUOLWVxcu

So how much of the American establishment last year went to bat for an organization that is quite predictably defending an oppressive communist regime?
Also, contra this obscene statement, the Cuban communist regime remains actively racist: https://t.co/eS73bYbX1G https://t.co/Uf5qjvWs0w

Deplorable this organization has chosen to stand with the oppressive dictators who have murdered and enslaved innocent Cubans of all colors since 1959.
The people responsible for ALL the death and misery in Cuba are the mostly white men who @Blklivesmatter has now embraced. https://t.co/ZCaesaCRcB

This is inane and whoever wrote it should have to read at least one real book about the Cold War (and not one by Howard Zinn). https://t.co/9OPXU46Y6c

Very revealing that these organizations are releasing statement openly parroting the anti-US talking points of the communist regime that the Cuban people are risking their lives protesting against. https://t.co/nthnZZPfXF

This is a really, *really* bad take. Supporting a dictatorship is the opposite of supporting "Cubans' right to choose their own government." https://t.co/bj9VCmMbzn

Assata Shakur is a an FBI Most Wanted Terrorist and cop killer.
The fact that BLM continues to support her should tell you all you need to know about this horrible organization. https://t.co/Wu0ceVVdc2

As a @Blklivesmatter supporter, I can't say how disappointed I am by this. #BLM has done so much to raise awareness about police brutality against black people in the US. Why shoot yourself in the foot by supporting police brutality against black and brown people elsewhere? https://t.co/jAiGBHDcWU
