‘Republican’ strategist goes on hyperbolic rant against her own ‘neofascism’ party: ‘It needs to burn down’

MSNBC’s Joy Reid hosted a panel during her show in which a Republican strategist (although she has worked with Democrats, including New York Governor Andrew Cuomo) suggested that the only way for the GOP to move forward is to burn the party to the ground and start over.

Susan Del Percio, who is also an analyst for MSNBC, was asked about the Texas gubernatorial race in which incumbent Greg Abbott is being challenged by Col. Allen West. During the segment, Del Percio claimed that West was a supporter of QAnon, as well as a believer in the notion that Donald Trump will be installed as president before Biden is voted out in 2024. According to the strategist, West is far from the only Republican who shares these beliefs and thinks that these candidates pose a huge problem for the party’s future.

“Really, I’ve been looking for a new word for ‘Trumpism’ because I hate it,” Del Percio said. I think it goes deeper than just Donald Trump within the Republican Party.”

“Forget Trumpism. It’s neofascism. That’s what the grassroots of the party looks like right now,” she declared.

“People who believe in democracy, ‘normal’ Republicans, Democrats and Independents, they should be almost happy Adam West, err Allen West is running,” she continued, momentarily confusing the retired colonel with the Batman actor. “Why? Because he may win. And if he wins, he will be a very weak challenger to whoever the Democrats put up.”

According to Del Percio, Texas isn’t the only state with what she calls the “wackiest of the wackies” vying for nominations within the GOP. “They’re going to lose in general elections,” she said. “That may not just help Democrats, but it will help the Republican Party in a way because it will burn it down.”

Del Percio went on to criticize Republicans for removing Representative Liz Cheney from her leadership positions after she chose to side with Democrats in their attempt to impeach then-president Trump. “I mean she’s a conservative’s conservative,” Del Percio said. “She’s speaking out. No matter how many Republicans from Washington speak out, it doesn’t matter. They know that. They know that it does not matter if they speak out.”

Reid asked her guest if she believes there’s a way to get Republicans back to “where we’re just fighting about tax cuts again?“

“It needs to burn down,” Del Percio fired back. “It literally needs to be demolished before you can go in and build it up again.”

“Right now [the GOP] is not strong, but it needs–it really does need to be burned down to the ground so it can come back up. But that also means there has to be people willing to keep their Republican credentials to be there when it’s time to build it up.“

Del Percio may find herself in the minority of her own party, as many believe that Donald Trump will run for president again in 2024. Republican candidates across the country are also seeking Trump’s endorsement, revealing just how powerful the 45th president remains in the GOP.
