Britney Spears gets answer from judge as public cheers her request to remove father as conservator

After a highly anticipated and devastating plea to the court last week, hopes that America’s princess of pop, Britney Spears would succeed in her plea to remove her father, James P. Spears, as the conservator of her estate were crushed Wednesday evening.

“The conservator’s request to suspend James P. Spears immediately upon the appointment of Bessemer Trust Company of California as sole conservator of estate is denied without prejudice,” the decision by the court ruled according to a document received by Fox News.

It appears that the attorney representing Spears in her case, Sam Ingham, was assigned to her as a court-appointed lawyer, also known as a public defender. She did not get to choose who would be representing her in the monumental case.

Ingham is the recipient of side-eye from many in the #FreeBritney movement after TMZ revealed that it took him nearly six months to file paperwork that would allow Bessemer Trust to be appointed as co-conservator of the pop star’s estate, following a judge’s November 2020 denial to remove James Spears from his role as the primary conservator despite Britney’s cries that she was “afraid of her father.”

“I want changes and I want changes going forward,” Spears pleaded with the court last week.

“I shouldn’t be in a conservatorship if I can work and provide money and work for myself and pay other people. It makes no sense,” the pop star continued.

Spears claimed that she was forced to work constantly and asked, “What state allows people to own another person’s money and account and threaten them in saying, ‘You can’t spend your money unless we do what we want you to do’? And I’m paying them.”

The star acknowledged the fact that she was on a regimented medication for five years, but after putting her foot down and disagreeing on choreography for her Vegas stay, her therapist, “immediately, the next day, put me on lithium, out of nowhere. He took me off my normal meds I’ve been on for five years, and lithium is a very, very strong and completely different medication compared to what I was used to. You can go mentally impaired if you take too much, if you stay on it longer than five months. But he put me on that, and I felt drunk. I really couldn’t even take up for myself. I couldn’t even have a conversation with my mom or dad really about anything. I told them I was scared.”

In a frightening overstep of boundaries, Spears’ team is also forcing her to remain on birth control despite her wanting a child with boyfriend, Sam Asghari.

“I wanted to take the [IUD] out so I could start trying to have another baby, but this so-called team won’t let me go to the doctor to take it out because they don’t want me to have children – any more children.” Spears alleged.

“I just want my life back. All I want is to own my money and for my boyfriend to be able to drive me in his car. I want to sue my family,” she said.

The star has also said she won’t perform again until her father is no longer in control of her career.

The 39-year-old singer has made it clear that she wants out — complete release — from the conservatorship and she wants it without psychiatric evaluation.

Spears said she’s already undergone numerous tests while being forced to work at the same time, but not allowed to “walk out the front door.”

The pop star and her boyfriend jetted off to Hawaii following Spears’ testimony last week. Spears appeared unfazed by the news in several videos that she posted on Instgram following the court’s decision.

Later in the evening, she shared one of her notorious dance videos captioned, “This was from the other day !!!! My first time dancing in heels in a while … my new lil project”.

“I don’t think I was heard on any level,” Spears said of the last time she spoke to the court in 2019. It is not clear whether she feels that way after the court’s decision Wednesday to reject her plea following her heartbreaking testimony.

Jamie Lynn Spears, her sister and former Nickelodeon child star, has come under fire for exploiting Britney in the same way her father has and for not speaking out on her behalf. Britney accused her entire family of profiting off of her and there is truth in that. In 2018, Jamie Lynn was named a trustee of Britney’s estate and in August 2020, she filed with the court to ask for control of money stored in a trust fund set up for Britney’s children and requested the money be moved into accounts for which she is the custodian.

The younger Spears sister also faced criticism for never speaking out against the treatment of her sister. She addressed the claims in an Instagram video.

“The only reason I haven’t before is because I felt like until my sister was able to speak for herself and say what she felt she needed to say publicly, that it wasn’t my place and it wasn’t the right thing to do. But now that she’s very clearly spoken and said what she needed to say, I feel like I can follow her lead and say what I feel I need to say.”

Jamie claims she supported Britney long before there was even a hashtag.

It remains unclear what will happen next in Spears’ fight for justice. Any further court proceedings will allegedly be sealed, but Spears can count on a growing number of supporters to have her back as she continues her fight, including, most recently, a bipartisan swath of lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

Social media users expressed their outrage and disappointment in the decision on Twitter. The ruling especially stung because it followed the release of incarcerated former comedian Bill Cosby from prison despite allegations from 60 women of sexual misconduct.
