A group of eight females, including a parent, allegedly converged upon and assaulted a 14-year-old girl in a North Carolina classroom earlier this week in a disturbing encounter caught on cell phone video.

The incident at Southern Guilford High School in the city of Greensboro, which was allegedly orchestrated by a 16-year-old female, reportedly originated in a dispute at a bus stop the day before, according to authorities.

The attackers allegedly included the parent of one of the students, age 37, and another adult, age 18, along with six juveniles, some of whom attend other schools in the area.

Thankfully, the victim only suffered minor bruises and scratches.

Accounts seem to differ as to why the group gained access to the school. In one report, the 16-year-old propped open a door to let the others in. In another report, the alleged assailants, who arrived in two separate cars, entered as two other students were exiting a lock door. Both explanations are not mutually exclusive. The investigation is ongoing.

“Several teachers and a school resource officer intervened to stop the attack. The SRO then stopped the students and the mother in the parking lot as they tried to leave and got their names.” Captain Brian Hall of the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office told  WRAL.

Although details are still unfolding, officials have apparently not yet discussed why no potential arrests were made at the scene.

By agreement with the sheriff’s office, the group reportedly plans to formally turn themselves in to authorities Monday or Tuesday. Potential charges include misdemeanor assault and inciting a riot.

The assailants who don’t attend the high school could also be charged with first-degree trespassing.

Those who are students there could also be subject to disciplinary action in the school district. Officials in the district are also reviewing safety protocols for vulnerabilities in the school and possible changes thereto.

“My first emotion is just sadness, honestly,” Capt. Hall admitted. “That students believe, a) that that’s an appropriate way to handle their problems with each other, but b) that they would think that the school is the appropriate place to do that.”

“School fights, unfortunately, are not uncommon for us. We have our share of those every week. But you don’t see a lot where parents are involved. That kind of took it to a whole ‘nother level. I would suggest to the school system send a clear message that this type of behavior will not be tolerated, and if you behave this way, you forfeit your right to attend school here,” the lawman added.

School officials did not lock down the school because the fight lasted less than a minute after which the suspects then exited the building.
