Though he certainly boasts some conservative bona fides, not all of Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey’s views can be classified as conservative.
Take masking. The belief among most conservatives has been that it should be up to the individual to decide whether a mask is appropriate or not for him or her, because mandating that people wear masks is a violation of liberty.
But McConaughey appears to view the issue differently. During an interview this week on “The Carlos Watson Show,” a broadcast by the media company OZY, the actor complained about the “damn dispute over the masks” and suggested that forced mask-wearing isn’t a violation of people’s liberties.
“I’m like going, ‘Come on, man, I’m not believing you’re really scared of this little cotton thing. I don’t really feel that takes away your identity and your freedom,'” he said.
“This is a short-term inconvenience for long-term freedom. Come on, now, there’s no data that says it’s not a good thing. No data that says it’s harmful,” he added.

He was correct to note that there’s no legitimate data showing that mask-wearing is somehow detrimental to people. However, he neglected to mention that there has been an ongoing debate over vaccinated Americans being forced to still mask up.
While the federal government has finally relented on its mask mandate, a number of left-wing state governments and private companies are still forcing everybody to mask up. Critics have raised concerns about this.
Critics have also raised concerns about Americans being forced to wear masks even when outdoors, despite evidence showing outdoor transmission is negligible.
For his part, McConaughey appears to be among those who think it’s vital to wear a mask when outdoors, even when standing way beyond six feet from other people.

Considering how outspoken the actor has been about encouraging Americans to get vaccinated, it’s assumed he himself has already been vaccinated.
As such, the picture provoked a spate of negative comments from conservatives, including some who said this is why they’ll “never” vote for him.
Look:
This is way I will NEVER vote for you-still love you work though. Masks 😷 don’t work according to Dr. Fauci.

Why do you need a mask on in the middle of nowhere?

Dude, why are you wearing mask out there? Just enjoy nature on behalf of all of us! Please.

I generally like McConaughey’s movies and generally like him off the screen. I guess he’s just playing his role in the great reset propaganda with a little softer hand to round up and pied piper Texans. There is even a cliff in the image to show where he is taking his followers.

The broader topic of the interview was about McConaughey potentially running to defeat Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in the 2022 gubernatorial race.
The actor said that he isn’t particularly concerned about the “buzz” over a potential run because, if he were to run, his only motivation would be the confidence of knowing he could achieve meaningful results.
“I’m not interested in going and putting a bunch of band-aids that are going to be ripped off when as soon as I’m out. I’m interested in building something that can last,” he said.
That being said, he’s not yet certain whether politics is the avenue by which he can indeed build “something that can last.”
“I trust my core beliefs enough and my values enough to feel comfortable listening to and opposing someone. We try to teach our kids delayed gratification, but we don’t like to think about further than tomorrow — we need immediate results,” he said.
“How many things do actual leaders and politicians get done in their four [years] that now become realized later on after they’re in office? They never get the credit for those. You only get credit for wins, W’s and L’s, what you did in the bank of those years,” he added.
According to a recent report from Politico, the actor has been “quietly making calls to influential people in Texas political circles, including a deep-pocketed moderate Republican and energy CEO, to take their temperature on the race and to talk about seriously throwing his hat in the ring.”
A poll out last month showed that he had a notable 12-point lead over Abbott. But given his decision to wear a mask while in the middle of nowhere and to also mock anti-maskers, chances are that 12-point lead has since plummeted.
