Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey gave University of Houston’s 2015 graduates the cold, hard truth during his commencement address.
And it’s something not nearly enough millennials have heard in their “everyone gets a trophy” lives.
“Life’s not fair, it never was, it isn’t now and it won’t ever be,” McConaughey told the graduates on May 15, to a standing ovation.
“Do not fall into the trap, the entitlement trap, of feeling like you’re a victim. You are not,” he advised.
McConaughey, 45, is a Texas native, and received praise for his acceptance speech at the 2014 Academy Awards for best actor in “Dallas Buyers Club.”
“First of all, I want to thank God, because that’s who I look up to,” he said when accepting the award.
Twitter greeted McConaughey’s speech with raves. But this one summed up the conservative view — and the theme of the speech — the best.
