As ‘Last Man Standing’ wraps up, Tim Allen posts heartfelt video for his fans

After 194 episodes and nine seasons, the top-rated iconic conservative sitcom “Last Man Standing starring actor Tim Allen taped its last episode.

“I don’t want to wrap up this story,” Allen said in a bittersweet video posted to Twitter to mark the close of the era. Allen explained the success of the show, “we honor family, we honor relationships, it gets the best of all of us.”

The video plays back a comical scene where father Mike Baxter, portrayed by Allen, tells his youngest on-screen daughter, “say something nice to your sister please.”

“Fine,” Eve Baxter, who was played by Kaitlyn Dever, responded, turning to her older sister, “I like that you’re an idiot because you’re easy to win arguments with.”

In an interview with Fox News, Allen said he had to fight back tears during the filming of the last episode, which aired on Thursday, May 20. In a reflection of real-life sorrow, the actors gathered on-screen to say farewell to Mike Baxter’s beloved truck that went missing during the episode. However, in real life, Allen took the truck home as he’s owned it for over 20 years.

“Our prop guy said, ‘Which of these did you want to take?’ and it was pictures of the family from the hallway that was going away,” Allen said. “I walked in and looked at Nancy and [I’m] literally surprised I got through that scene.”

He continued: “She really looked at me [and said], ‘Are you OK?’ and I was not OK.”

Costar Nancy Travis, who played Tim Allen’s on-screen wife, also had an emotional close to the show.

“It’s the nature of what we do,” she said. “But this job, in particular, we just all formed such close bonds and relationships.”

“Last Man Standing” hasn’t always had smooth sailing, however. After its sixth season, ABC canceled the popular conservative show, despite it being the second top-rated show on the network for the 2016-17 season. Fox eventually picked it up and aired the seventh season in late 2018.

Fans on Twitter were obviously disappointed, as good wholesome conservative comedy appears to be a dying breed.

Although “Last Man Standing” will always hold a special place in many conservatives’ re-run lists, there is at least one comedy available that will scratch any conservative comedy itch.
