Dr. Anthony Fauci appeared on ABC with anchor George Stephanopoulos to discuss the CDC’s new guidelines where he admitted that wearing a mask inside while he was fully vaccinated was more about imagery and less about science.
“I didn’t want to look like I was giving mixed signals but being a fully vaccinated person, the chances of my getting infected in an indoor setting is extremely low,” Fauci stated.
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has repeatedly called out Fauci over his “theater” of wearing masks after a person is fully vaccinated or if they have already contracted the virus. The doctor’s statements seem to lend credence to Paul’s claim.
Paul has little to no respect for Fauci: “He probably has the highest IQ for someone who actually acts like an ignoramus every day of the week,” he harshly commented Friday on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle.”

Fauci appears to be making conflicting statements. While admitting that he wore a mask indoors to prevent “mixed signals,” he claimed that the new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines were strictly based on science: “The underlying reason for the CDC doing this was just based on the evolution of the science,” Fauci declared during an interview on “Face the Nation.” “But if in fact, this serves as an incentive for people to get vaccinated, all the better. I hope it does, actually.”
His claim of science-driven CDC policy is perplexing since less than two months ago, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky warned of “impending doom” as coronavirus cases began to go up again. Now, they are stating the exact opposite. He is now asserting that the agency will release more specific guidelines and “significant clarifications” in the coming weeks regarding mask-wearing.
“So even though there are breakthrough infections with vaccinated people almost always the people are asymptomatic and the level of virus is so low it makes it extremely unlikely — not impossible — but very, very low likelihood that they’re going to transmit it,” Fauci proclaimed.
Fauci posited that three factors contributed to the new guidelines: an accumulation of data that demonstrates the “real-world effectiveness” of the vaccines, new studies that show the vaccines protect against the new coronavirus variants, and information indicating that it’s unlikely a vaccinated individual who becomes infected witch the virus will transmit it to somebody else.
“The accumulation of all of those scientific facts, information, and evidence brought the CDC to make that decision to say now when you’re vaccinated, you don’t need to wear a mask, not only outdoors, but you don’t need to wear it indoors,” he said.
The CDC stated on Thursday that anyone who is fully vaccinated can ditch wearing masks and stop social distancing for the majority of indoor and outdoor activities. The White House has also lifted its own mask requirement for fully vaccinated staff following the issuance of the new guidelines.
In the end, all of it is part of the giant push for Americans to get vaccinated to allegedly halt the virus: “When you get vaccinated, you not only protect your own health and that of the family, but also you contribute to the community health by preventing the spread of the virus throughout the community,” Fauci admonished. “In other words, you become a dead-end to the virus. And when there are a lot of dead ends around, the virus is not going to go anywhere.”
Adding even more to the confusion out there, Fauci seemingly contradicted his stance supporting the CDC’s guidelines on Tuesday when he stated that it’s “perfectly reasonable and understandable” for businesses to keep mask mandates in place. That premise is due to the uncertainty of knowing who has and hasn’t been vaccinated: “The problem and the issue is that we don’t have any way of knowing who is vaccinated and who’s not vaccinated,” Fauci remarked.
The CDC’s guidance doesn’t apply to those working in healthcare settings, correctional facilities, or homeless shelters. People will still have to follow local business and workplace mandates. Masks are still required on trains, buses, in airports, and on airplanes as well.
Fauci was mocked on Twitter for his mask theater:
It’s astonishing how anyone thinks mask policy is the most critical issue of our time. Good grief.

So @RandPaul was right. Dr. Fauci has lost all credibility.
— Matthew Warren (@Matthew39207262) May 18, 2021
So basically he lied to Congress. I seem to recall somewhere, where that was a crime.

Flip Flop Fauci

Wearing a mask indoors after being vaccinated is the definition of mixed signals. And this is the brains behind the Covid response. Good grief. 🙄

He had no problem giving mixed signals months ago at the baseball game though. Consistency and honesty aren’t exactly Fauci’s strengths.
