Given how poorly things turned out for Amy Cooper, the original “Central Park Karen” who told a black man in the park bird watching that she would call the police and say he was threatening her when he confronted her for not abiding by a leash law, you’d think others might tread carefully.
But a Tik Tok video making the rounds suggests otherwise, as two black women out enjoying the day in Central Park encounter a woman who allegedly refused to return their phone charger.
On the phone with police, the woman can be heard telling the dispatcher the black women were threatening to “beat her” — they are recording their encounter with the woman and are clearly not getting physical with her as she claims.
The woman, who speaks with somewhat of an accent, perhaps of Middle Eastern origin, came to be in possession of the phone changer when the women dropped it during a bike ride.
“I brought my portable charger & it slipped off my friend’s bike. This lady lunges for the charger and claims we will have to provide proof to get this charger back,” read the text overlay of one of a series of Tik Tok videos.
The woman is heard on the video saying she found the charger and telling them they have to prove it’s theirs. She also repeats the claim that they are going to beat her.
“You have to prove it. I’m not saying I’m not going to give it to you; you have to prove that it’s yours,” she is heard saying, before telling the dispatcher. “Ma’am they don’t let me, there are two girls. They are surrounding me and they are threatening me that they are going to beat me or something.”
When one of the women asked her if she is racist, the woman replied, “Yes I am.”
It is a crime to make a false or hate-based 911 call in New York, this being part of the fallout from the first “Central Park Karen” incident, and one of the women reminded her of that.
“She’s lying,” one of the women said. “You know that’s illegal now right?”
In all fairness, the two women were beyond patient as they followed “Karen”, who began walking away.
Growing angrier, she threatened to “break” the charger and told one of the women, “I’m going throw it away. You haven’t paid for it, your daddy paid for it. Or maybe your sister paid for it.”
The woman assured her that she has a “very good job.”
A group of mounted officers are seen approaching them, and the women stop them. They each began giving their side of the story and, long story short, one of the women is seen holding up the charger, explaining that she got it back after the cops intervened.
The Tik Tok video was posted by Alana Lambert, and Lana Cole posted the YouTube video seen above.
“I just had my first encounter with a Karen,” the woman believed to be Lambert said in the video. “I’m still in disbelief.”
It’s obvious that the incident upset her, as she goes on to express her views about what had occurred and explaining that her father had given her the charger before he died from an overdose.
“I remember him saying I was going to need that charger one day,” Lambert said, as her emotions got the better of her.
As for the original “Central Park Karen,” she had a misdemeanor charge stemming from the incident dropped earlier this year after the completion of “restorative justice sessions,” NPR reported.
Cooper was doxxed online after the encounter and would end up being fired by her employer, the investment firm Franklin Templeton.
