Multi-billionaire Tesla CEO Elon Musk has landed in New York City ahead of what has become a controversial guest-hosting gig for the famed “Saturday Night Live” show on NBC.
Musk, whose vision for his SpaceX project is to establish a permanent human colony on Mars, has been a thorn in the side of many on the left for years, and SNL’s announcement last month that he would be hosting the legacy comedy sketch show with Miley Cyrus as the musical guest raised eyebrows and created a backlash, including among cast members.
Nevertheless, Musk, 49, was spotted in the Big Apple on Tuesday by the paparazzi, hanging out with his girlfriend and singer Grimes, 33, as he prepares to take the SNL helm.
But for now at least, it’s not clear that all SNL cast members are going to appear on the show because of the controversies surrounding Musk.
“Speaking historically, if a cast member has been that unhappy, they don’t have to do it,” one source told Page Six recently. “[‘SNL’ boss Lorne Michaels] won’t ever make them do anything they don’t want to do.”
A number of SNL cast members have appeared to voice their tacit disapproval with having Musk headline the show, Fox Business Network reported, adding that he’ll be the first non-actor and non-athlete to fill the role since Donald Trump guest-hosted in 2015, which was also controversial at the time.
For instance, Musk recently tweeted, “Let’s find out just how live ‘Saturday Night Live’ really is,” prompting a response from cast member Bowen Yang on Instagram. “What the f**k does this even mean,” Yang wrote.
And cast member Andrew Dismukes wrote, “Only CEO I wanna do sketch with is Cher-E Oteri,” in reference to former cast member Cheri Oteri.
Another cast member, Aidy Bryant, took a less direct swipe at Musk, retweeting a claim from millionaire Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.): “The 50 wealthiest people in America today own more wealth than the bottom half of our people.”
That tweet has since been deleted, according to Fox Business Network.
Cyrus herself has also raised eyebrows and angered some on the left for appearing to be friendly with Musk on social media.
It started after a fan of both tweeted a mock-up of Musk’s head on Cyrus’ body in a picture from a music video of her 2013 hit “Wrecking Ball.”
“Might be something there haha,” Musk wrote in response.

“I’m down if you are! #MileyAndMusk to the moon!” Cyrus wrote in response.

The response from Cyrus drew replies from fans who urged her to delete the tweet — which she has not done. But positive responses vastly outnumbered the critical replies, indicating that most of her fans are also fans of the pairing.
However, SNL’s announcement that Musk was going to guest-host drew a far more critical response from social media users, no doubt attributable to the multi-billionaire’s contentious nature.
Warning: Strong language
“Elon Musk is an anti-vax, union busting, covid super spreading piece of s**t. Fuc==**k him and fuck @nbcsnl for giving him a platform. This is the 2021 equivalent of when trump hosted in 2015,” wrote one Twitter user.

Is SNL going to have a skit where Elon Musk pretends that he’s an expert on medical ventilators, and spreads a bunch of harmful information during a pandemic?
How about one where he uses his fanbase to pump scam currency markets?

I can’t believe they put one of my favorite people with one of my absolute least favorite people. Nobody wants Elon Musk on SNL, even the cast hates him. They should have given Miley double duty she’d be a great host
