It looks like Portland mayor Ted Wheeler’s desire to finally “take the city back” from Antifa after over a year of violent rioting isn’t going so well.
May Day turned into mayhem as the violence-loving Antifa rioters in Portland turned what started as a peaceful protest into an outright riot yesterday.
Though there were multiple protests around the city yesterday, and many remained peaceful, one required a quick police response after the alleged assault of a child.
The group, marching around City Hall, included about 100 people involved in an “autonomous demonstration” that became an unlawful assembly when demonstrators began engaging in criminal activity. Some protesters tried to shield the police from seeing their actions with umbrellas.

Another video shows rioters trying to shut a road down, and a seemingly crazy rioter throws himself on top of a car that tried to drive through the human barrier:

At least six rioters have been arrested including one for reportedly threatening cops with a knife.
Several items were seized from rioters including a baseball bat, body armor, a knife, and a flare, according to the Portland Police.

Other items confiscated included a sling and instructions to make a sling. The big pictures and simple words on the instructions may be an indication of the level of education received by these rioters.

Andy Ngo, the author of “Unmasked” which has apparently been subject to repeated efforts to censor it, tweeted yesterday that the instructions on “How to make a sling” and information on how to make other weapons were distributed by Antifa yesterday.
The police documented some of the damage done during the riot including graffiti on the wall of a Hilton and damage to three Starbucks windows.

Early this morning, Portland Police Chief Chuck Lovell released a statement about the tumultuous events yesterday.
“We appreciate those who engaged in their First Amendment rights this afternoon in a peaceful manner. Once again, under the cover of darkness, several dozen people decided to damage and destroy multiple businesses in our downtown area resulting in a riot,” he said. “The situation became extremely dangerous when a man brandished a knife at officers when officers were simply doing their job. The officers appear to have exercised restraint and professionalism and safely apprehended this suspect. I am proud of all of our employees who worked to minimize further damage and arrest some of the criminals involved.”
