A government whistleblower who was once associated with a top-secret Pentagon program that tracked, documented, and analyzed unexplained aerial phenomenon (UAP) sightings — more commonly known as unidentified flying objects, or UFOs — said last week that the inability to discover their origins is akin to an intelligence failure on the scale of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C.
As he introduced a segment of his Friday show, Fox News’ Tucker Carlson said the issue of UAPs “could be the most consequential thing to happen to this country, to this world, maybe ever,” noting that the U.S. government is expected to release a massive report in June providing more details into scores of sightings over the years.
He then played a clip of an interview of Luis Elizondo, the former head of the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP), with the New York Post, in which he suggested that all 18 U.S. intelligence agencies have thus far failed to identify what is either an extremely advanced foreign power threat or an extraterrestrial one.
“The last time we had an intelligence failure in this country, a major one — which was 9/11 — it took us almost three years to come up with the 9/11 Commission report,” Elizondo said. “Let’s just go down the rabbit hole here for a second and let’s just assume this is some sort of adversarial or foreign technology that, several decades now, has managed to leapfrog us and evade all 18 members of the intelligence community despite our best human intelligence, signals intelligence, imagery intelligence…that would be an intelligence failure that would eclipse just about anything else this country has ever faced, especially if this has occurred for decades.”

“If there is a foreign adversary that can put a nuclear warhead within moments over Washington, D.C. … that’s a problem,” the career intelligence official added.
Carlson agreed, noting that “too few have considered it from that perspective” before he brought on former UK Ministry of Defense official Nick Pope to discuss the “very grave threat to nation-states” potentially posed by craft and objects intelligence agencies have yet to publicly identify as such.
“That has to be answered absolutely,” Pope began. “We are under siege. It’s like there’s a war of nerves going on.”
As Pope spoke, Carlson played a number of previously released video clips and imagery from military aircraft and other assets tracking unknown objects, some of which are traveling at very great speeds without showing any typical fuel exhaust trails.
“If this was drones belonging to a foreign adversary, there would be an absolute outcry,” Pope continued. “And yet, the situation we’re in, we don’t know what these things are and they might even be extraterrestrial. That’s worse.”
In March, former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe previewed some of what is likely to be contained in the upcoming report, telling Fox News’s Maria Bartiromo that the Pentagon has been sitting on a large number of unexplainable sightings for years.
“There are a lot more sightings than have been made public. Some of those have been declassified,” he said.
“And when we talk about sightings, we are talking about objects that have been seen by Navy or Air Force pilots, or have been picked up by satellite imagery that frankly engage in actions that are difficult to explain,” the former DNI under President Donald Trump added.
“Movements that are hard to replicate that we don’t have the technology for. Or traveling at speeds that exceed the sound barrier without a sonic boom,” he added.
Pope told Carlson he agreed with Elizondo’s assessment that the mystery surrounding these objects is “a potential catastrophic failure of intelligence” that may have been caused by “skeptical bureaucrats” who simply refused to believe what they were seeing.
If that’s the case, Pope said, “There must be a reckoning.”
