‘Shocked and a bit embarrassed’ for him: Lib media triggered by Scott rebuttal, ‘Uncle Tim’ trends

Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) gave a very strong rebuttal to President Joe Biden’s address to Congress, decrying divisive political race-baiting. Following that, the slur “Uncle Tim” trended on Twitter and a panel on MSNBC trashed him with Joy Reid stating that she was “shocked and a bit embarrassed” for him.

On Wednesday evening following Scott’s speech, leftists on Twitter flooded the social media platform with the racist slur. An MSNBC panel was all over Scott’s admonitions on race as well.

Host Rachel Maddow led the panel in attacking Scott by claiming “it’s going to be hard for most people that are paying any attention to politics to swallow the ‘Republicans support making it easier to vote’ line.” She added: “There’s some stuff there that may make sense in a sliver of Republican world, but in the news world I don’t think will ring.”

Nicolle Wallace joined the progressive dog pile: “This is a speech delivered from a planet where facts don’t matter, which is where the current Republican party resides, so it’s not really his fault. But it is his responsibility to get his facts straight.” She also stated that “the most reprehensible thing” Scott said in his speech had to do with the Georgia voting law.

Then Joy Reid joined the bash fest: “This was standard Republican pablum. This could have been delivered by Tom Cotton or Mike Lee. ‘America’s not a racist country.’ ‘There’s no racism here.’ I’m not sure what the purpose of this was. His audience to me appeared to be conservative white Republicans who are angry over certain things, of cancel culture and the same sort of cultural nods that we hear on Fox News. And he was out here to throw them a lifeline.” She also proclaimed that she was “shocked and a bit embarrassed” for Scott and that “this was a lost opportunity” to address criminal justice reform.

Lawrence O’Donnell attacked just for the sake of attacking and objected to Scott saying, “Our president seems like a good man.”

O’Donnell remarked: “He couldn’t bring himself to say to Republican voters who he wants to raise money from ‘our president is a good man,’” O’Donnell nitpicked. “If you asked Joe Biden about Tim Scott, there’s no circumstance in which Joe Biden wouldn’t say ‘Tim Scott’s a good man’ and then he’d go onto talk about his disagreements. But that construction is a 21st-century Republican construction in that sentence about a Democratic president of the United States.”

“Our nation is starving for more than empty platitudes,” Scott said in his address. “We need policies and progress that bring us closer together. But three months in, the actions of the President and his party are pulling us further and further apart.”

Senator Scott made the point in his speech that the United States is not a racist country: “Hear me clearly: America is not a racist country. It’s backwards to fight discrimination with different discrimination. And it’s wrong to try to use our painful past to dishonestly shut down debates in the present.”

He reflected on his life and how he had encountered racism. Some of that came from those on the left who have branded him an “Uncle Tom” which insinuates that he answers to white people. The slur is in the same vein as the one that went viral on Twitter calling him an “Uncle Tim,” and it was promoted by the left as well.

“I get called Uncle Tom and the N-word by progressives… I know firsthand, our healing is not finished,” Scott stated during his rebuttal.

Joy Reid used a similar tactic against Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas labeling him “Uncle Clarence” last year. She also called Scott a token black in March.

Scott’s words during his rebuttal infuriated Democrats and the media. He was castigated and at the same time dismissed.

MSNBC host Touré Neblett was one of the leftists on Twitter to spread the racially charged “Uncle Tim” slur far and wide. And Twitter did not appear to have an issue with the derogatory tweets, which incensed conservatives.

“Twitter is choosing to trend a racist attack from the left on Sen. Tim Scott,” The Federalist’s Mollie Hemingway commented on Twitter. “Apparently they want him to suffer for the crime of upstaging Biden via a highly effective speech.”

Scott’s speech was widely acclaimed by conservatives and he is seen as a rising star in the Republican Party.
