The one, rare serendipitous beauty about a coronavirus face mask is that it sometimes lowers everybody to the same level because it’s not always clear who’s behind the mask.
Of course, not everybody necessarily appreciates this aspect of the mask.
Meet Dayanna Rodas, a Daytona iHop hostess who came face-to-face with legendary actor and comedian Adam Sandler this week but didn’t realize it until it was too late.
In a self-deprecating TikTok video posted Monday, Rodas wrote that Sandler had wanted to dine at the iHop but had departed after she’d told him that there was a 30-minute wait.
The video began with a clip of Rodas with a clown filter over her face and then pivoted to surveillance footage from the restaurant showing her turning Sandler away.

She did nothing wrong, of course, because Sandler isn’t entitled to an immediate seat just because he’s a celebrity. And the fact that he didn’t flex his status as a celebrity to get an immediate seat does speak well of his character.
And yes, that was definitely Sandler.
“A publicist for Sandler confirmed … that it was the comic actor but didn’t provide further information,” HuffPost reported Tuesday.
Rodas’ video has since gone viral, and the consensus is that, one, she did nothing wrong, and two, Sandler’s the man.

There’s this perception that the media’s trying to turn it into a scandal. But it seems more likely that this time around, they’re just trying to have some fun.
As for the real takeaway from this whole debacle, some say it’s the startling fact that Adam Sandler is down with iHop. Whoa!

But the truth is he’s down with a lot of restaurants.
Last August, he reportedly hit up Harry’s Restaurant and Cafe in Houston.
“Harry’s, which serves breakfast, brunch and lunch, opened in 1948. The kitchen serves Southern, Latin and European dishes including French toast with nuts, honey and Greek yogurt ice cream, chilaquiles and a spicy fried chicken and kale salad,” the Houston Chronicle reported at the time.
A year earlier, Sandler’s dining habits again attracted the attention of the media when he showed up at The Mill 185 restaurant in West Boylston, Massachusetts. Like Rodas, front-end manager Tony Topi didn’t initially recognize him either.
“But soon an excited waitress came into the kitchen and declared that Sandler was in the restaurant. The employees were asked to keep it quiet so that the actor and his family could enjoy a quiet meal,” The MetroWest Daily News reported at the time.
“There were about 30 people in the restaurant at the time, but only a few recognized Sandler. They were also asked to give him space to enjoy his meal of steak tips,” the paper’s report continued.

In both cases, Sandler reportedly paid for his food. But according to A Taste of Italy, a restaurant in Peabody, Massachusetts, he didn’t pay — or rather, his company didn’t pay — when he ordered food from them in 2011.
“Adam is filming a movie in Peabody, MA. Last month, Adam’s company, Happy Madison Productions, made a deal with a restaurant — A Taste of Italy — to cater a meal for the cast and crew. The owner brought the grub and got paid and everything was hunky-dory,” TMZ reported at the time.
So far, so good.
“But the restaurant owner claims the production company asked him to stock up on food for 2 BBQ’s the following week. He claims he did just that, but Adam’s company never called, leaving him with bags full of groceries to the tune of $2,500,” TMZ’s report continued.
Uh oh.
After the actor’s company allegedly refused to pay, the owner retaliated by putting up a sign that read, “ADAM SANDLER ATE HERE AND NEVER PAID.”
Oof.
Sandler’s company denied the allegation.
“Reps from Adam’s production company tell TMZ .. they never made any promises about catering future BBQ’s and as far as they’re concerned … it’s case closed. And, we’re told, Adam has never eaten at A Taste of Italy — and we’re guessing he never will,” TMZ reported.
