Liberal mainstream media “fact-checkers” keep screwing up their so-called “fact-checks” and smearing Republicans in the process.
The latest screw-up came from HuffPost, which falsely claimed in a tweet Friday that “Sen. Ted Cruz may have told his biggest lie yet with the claim that Republicans never engaged in court packing when they controlled the White House and Congress.”

The claim was a complete lie. Because of backlash, HuffPost deleted the original tweet and uploaded one with a “correction” shortly thereafter.
“Correction: An earlier version said that Cruz lied about court packing. The dishonesty lies in the claim that Republicans never ‘rigged the game,'” the “correction” read.

But even the “correction” was false, as was the video attached to it.
The video accused Cruz of being a “master gaslighter” for having rightly claimed that “you didn’t see Republicans, when we had control of the Senate, try to rig the game.”
“When Republicans controlled the White house and Congress, they loved ramming judges through the system, including at least 174 district court judges and 54 appeals court judges. Senate Republicans also confirmed three Supreme Court justices, including Amy Coney Barrett,” the video claimed.
But these aren’t examples of “rigging the game.” They’re examples of Republican senators legislating within the bounds of their authority.
Moreover, former Democrat President Barack Hussein Obama managed to make 334 judicial appointments during his eight years in office — and all thanks to then-Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid choosing to go nuclear with his backing.
“Barrett, nominated after Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died, was confirmed a week before the 2020 election. Many called out then-Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnnell for rushing Barrett onto the bench, considering he declared in 2016 that an outgoing president shouldn’t fill a Supreme Court vacancy,” the video continued.
But McConnell never said that. He said there’s no precedent of a Senate controlled by one party confirming a judge nominated by the president of an opposing party during an election year.
Both HuffPost’s original tweet and its pseudo “correction” provoked widespread backlash, even from “Never Trumpers” like Jonah Goldberg, who can be so left-wing at times that he was nominated for this year’s “Liberal Hack Tournament.”

The criticism that poured in after HuffPost’s attempted “correction” was no less harsh.
Like Fox News contributor Stephen L. Miller noted, “Still wrong. Nothing was rigged. Republicans won the elections needed to nominate and consent to judges. That was it.”

Apparently, lying is a habit for HuffPost.
Its false fact-check came days after congressional Democrats unveiled legislation to actually pack the courts — not just appoint nominees — by adding four justices to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The move drew widespread criticism from conservatives, including – but certainly not limited to – Cruz:
Packing the Supreme Court would destroy the Supreme Court.

In response, ostensibly objective outlets like HuffPost began running defense for Democrats.
“Republicans seem to forget their own court-packing attempts,” a headline at The Washington Post read.
“‘Gaslighting 101’: Ted Cruz ridiculed over claim GOP has never tried to pack the Supreme Court,” another headline, this from the The Independent, read.
Gaslighting 101 indeed …
