Ron DeSantis lays out exactly what his priorities would be if he were president right now

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was asked by Fox News host Tucker Carlson what his priorities would be if he were president today and he replied without hesitation that topping his agenda would be illegal immigration.

“If you somehow got appointed president this afternoon what would your priorities be?” Carlson asked the Republican governor.

“I would secure the border, first of all,” he noted. “This is created because of what Biden did.”

DeSantis praised the efforts of former President Trump when he tackled the border situation and said he “had it right.” He vowed that he would take Trump’s moves toward curbing illegal immigration even further.

“We banned sanctuary cities in Florida when I became governor, we did E-Verify for the first time ever, fought the business lobby to do that,” DeSantis explained to Carlson. “I would fight for those policies on the federal level as well because we’ve got to get this immigration situation under control.”

Then DeSantis weighed in on the problems of bureaucracy, which we have not addressed in many years.

“Looking at what President Trump had to deal with, you know this bureaucracy of ours — there’s a lot of problems in that. And I think you need to be able to bring accountability to people in the bureaucracy. I mean if Donald Trump is elected president, he tries to do policy, and the bureaucracy tells him to go fly a kite, that’s not representative government. And I think we’ve allowed this to fester for years and years, and I think it’s at the point now where, even if a Republican wins the election, the other party still maintains control of the apparatus of the executive branch. And that can’t be the way this goes. You go in, you [should] have the ability to implement the agenda,” he contended.

Carlson worried out loud to DeSantis that he is uncertain that a Republican will ever win a national election again if H.R. 1 – For the People Act – is passed. That bill would ostensibly hand control of national elections over to the federal government.

“I don’t think those changes are going to pass muster,” DeSantis stated. He commented that the state of Florida would never stand for it. “I think it’s unconstitutional … it would immediately be challenged in court,” the governor proclaimed.

In the same interview, DeSantis also addressed how the mainstream media has lost credibility and pushes false narratives with impunity.

He lamented that the media is “actively partisan.” Then DeSantis went on to say that the media will “craft a narrative regardless of the facts.” If those facts are “inconvenient to the narrative, they’ll smother and ignore the fact to be able to continue with the narrative.”

DeSantis went on to note numerous “bombshell” stories that turned out to be false, such as actor Jussie Smollett faking a hate crime, and the Russia collusion claims made by the Democrats that were propagandized by the media.

“The phone call that Trump supposedly had with Georgia, where they fabricated the quotes. Those aren’t even real quotes. And so I think it’s a big problem for democracy,” he said.

“I think their model is kind of smearing their opponents for clicks. And I think that worked very well for them when Trump was president because they were really playing to an enraged left-wing base,” DeSantis claimed.

“Now that we’re in a different environment,” he stated, “you see the ratings going down.”
