House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) both blasted the newly formed “America First” caucus with McCarthy referring to it as “nativist dog whistles” and Kinzinger calling it “the white supremacy caucus.”
McCarthy bluntly stated in an apparent rebuke of the rumored platform for the caucus: “America is built on the idea that we are all created equal and success is earned through honest, hard work. It isn’t built on identity, race, or religion. The Republican Party is the party of Lincoln & the party of more opportunity for all Americans—not nativist dog whistles.”
Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) also echoed the same sentiment.
The “America First” caucus was being formed and led by Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Punchbowl News reported on Friday.
They claim to have obtained a seven-page policy outline from the group. The document is said to insist that caucus members must possess a “certain intellectual boldness” to follow the leadership of former President Trump and “potentially step on some toes and sacrifice sacred cows for the good of the American nation.” The Hill has also reportedly obtained a copy of the platform.

Kinzinger tweeted his outrage on Friday over the formation of the caucus: “I believe anyone that joins this caucus should have their committees stripped, and the Republican conference should expel them from conference participation. While we can’t prevent someone from calling themselves Republican, we can loudly say they don’t belong to us.”
He called it “the white supremacy caucus.”

The proposed caucus believes that election fraud is real and widespread. They contend that the electoral system needs massive reform and are calling for an end to mail-in voting.
They also reportedly take a strong stance on immigration and posit that “America is a nation, with a border, and a culture, strengthened by uniquely Anglo-Saxon political traditions.” It’s the “Anglo-Saxon” part that is evidently offending people on the left and the right.
“History has shown that societal trust and political unity are threatened when foreign citizens are imported en-masse into a country, particularly without institutional support for assimilation,” the policy claims.
As for infrastructure, the caucus is allegedly in favor of buildings with “architectural, engineering and aesthetic value that befits the progeny of European architecture.”
They are calling for an end to coronavirus lockdowns and social distancing mandates as well.
Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) stated that he was “looking at” joining the caucus. He claimed that he hadn’t seen the reference to “Anglo-Saxon.”
“It’s not supposed to be about race at all,” Gohmert remarked.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) tweeted on Friday that he looks forward to joining the caucus: “I’m proud to join @mtgreenee in the #AmericaFirst Caucus. We will end wars, stop illegal immigration & promote trade that is fair to American workers,” Gaetz tweeted. “This is just a hit piece from the America Last crowd in Big Media, Big Tech & Big Government.”
Gaetz has long been a proponent of “America First.”

A spokesperson for Greene has confirmed that the platform is being written.
“Capitol Hill is full of dirty backstabbing swamp creatures willing to leak gossip to borderline tabloids, like Punchbowl News,” commented spokesman Nick Dyer. “Be on the lookout for a public release for the America First Caucus platform when it’s released publicly very soon.”
