A Democrat candidate for the New York City Council race, which will be held in November, has on her campaign an apparent racist who reportedly takes issue with there being too many white and Jewish people living in the Upper West Side neighborhood of NYC.

Quinn Mootz, the campaign manager for West Side Democrats’ member Sara Lind, posted controversial comments to Twitter this past Tuesday in which she first complained about the neighborhood’s alleged “diversity problem” and then defended herself from backlash by claiming that Jewish people don’t count as “people of color.”

According to The Jewish Press, her first tweet, since deleted, read as follows: “As of 2018: 10.8% of the population is Asian, 4.1% black, 14.1% hispanic, and 68.4% white. So yeah ima go ahead and say the UWS has a diversity problem. Of your 191,000 residents…. 130,795 are white.”

To be clear, there’s nothing wrong with a neighborhood being predominantly white. In addition, anyone who thinks otherwise is likely a racist.

That being said, not mentioned in Mootz’ tweet was that the majority of the Upper West Side’s “white” residents are reportedly Jews. When critics responded to her complaint by pointing this out, she replied by doubling down on her racism.

Jews are not POC for just being jewish sorry,” she reportedly tweeted.

If she thought the backlash against her first tweet was rough, she in was in for a rude awakening. Besides blasting her on Twitter for her racism, members of the public also began digging through her tweets for other examples of racism. What they wound up finding was a treasure trove of what one critic called “wacko.”

Here’s one example:

Speaking with the New York Post, Upper West Side resident Steven Dzik wondered whether Mootz’ boss shares her radicalism.

“I have to assume the campaign manager’s views reflect the candidate’s. Mootz’s comment shows contempt for the residents of the neighborhood she hopes to represent,” he said.

“The Upper West Side is not simply predominately white. More than half the white people are Jewish. Jews have been a separate people for a millennia. To simply group Jews as white people comprising one undifferentiated homogenous group is bigoted and is engaging in simplistic stereotyping,” he added.

But to hear Lind’s campaign tell it, she and Mootz are the real victims.

“Our campaign manager happens to be Jewish. She finds these attacks to be very hurtful. The comments are being taken out of context to be used against Quinn. They’re liars,” a campaign spokesperson told the Post.

Meanwhile, Lind posted a woe-is-me tweet Wednesday announcing that her campaign “is officially off @Twitter” because of the alleged trolling and harassment it’s faced.

Look:

Not included anywhere in Lind’s tweet or even anywhere on her whole feed is an apology for Mootz’ remark, let alone even a simple condemnation. Nor is there any mention of her other deplorable behavior, like reportedly cursing out her boss’s constituents.

One tepid supporter responded to Lind’s tweet by pointing out that he hasn’t “read a single tweet” of a critic harassing or threatening her and her campaign.

The supporter also noted that, if anyone’s been acting badly, it’s been her and her campaign officials via their push to defund the Upper West Side, their alleged doxxing of residents and their habit of calling locals racists.

Mootz has for her part reportedly deactivated her account. As of Saturday morning, her LinkedIn profile showed that she was still employed by Lind.
