‘Another NBC hit job’: Macaulay Culkin targeted for 2018 quips about Asian girlfriend

In the eyes of more than one critic, it appears that NBC News set out to cancel actor Macaulay Culkin over a remark he made back in 2018. This being a good showcase of the left’s tendency to look back in time and apply today’s political mindset.

With violence against people of Asian descent in the U.S. being a media focal point of late, NBC marked the birth of Culkin’s son with Brenda Song, who is of Asian descent, by calling attention to a 2018 episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience.”

The “Home Alone” star reportedly said in the podcast interview Song is “Asian, so I’m gonna have tiny little Asian babies,” before comparing their potential offspring to Sean Lennon, the son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

“It’s going to be adorable — a bunch of Sean Lennons running around the house, that’s what I’m looking for,” Culkin said, according to the article. The actor would suggest that he was allowed to “make Asian jokes because I have an Asian girlfriend kinda thing.”

NBC News reported that his remarks “elicited criticism from many who pointed out that he had ‘fetishized’ his own children.”

Pawan Dhingra, a professor of American studies at Amherst College, was featured to support the story narrative and she did not disappoint, essentially accusing Culkin of objectifying his own family.

“More than anything, he’s exoticizing his partner, and the babies, who were at that point not even born yet,” Dhingra declared. “I think that’s a problem in and of itself — when you are turning a person into an exotic object because of their race, or their biracial heritage.”

Culkin spoke about private jokes between him and Song in the interview that drew scorn from Dhingra.

“The jokes he was saying to his girlfriend at the time, about the driving and about how she looks, the punchline to all those jokes is being Asian,” he said. “I don’t want to speak about their relationship in any way. I don’t have any bearing on that. But it does kind of fit a very tired belittling of Asians — that we are the joke. We don’t do anything funny. We can’t make a joke. We are the joke.”

Citing the number of critics named in the piece, conservative Stephen Miller said in a tweet, “This is another NBC hit job. Nothing more.”

Of course, one social media user cautioned about having any sympathy for Culkin, reminding followers that the actor backed having former President Donald Trump’s cameo appearance in “Home Alone” removed.
