President Joe Biden’s “border czar” Roberta Jacobson will be stepping down at the end of April as the border catastrophe continues to explode with thousands of illegal aliens surging into the country with the president still refusing to call it a crisis.
Jacobson is the former U.S. ambassador to Mexico. She was tapped for the position by the administration as the situation at the border became a full-blown crisis and lawmakers demanded that the issue be addressed. Her departure comes after just two months on the job, though supposedly after reaching a pre-planned 100-day mark.
“Consistent with her commitment to serve in the administration’s first 100 days, Ambassador Jacobson will retire from her role as Coordinator at the end of this month,” National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stated. He also posited that she had helped to “usher in a more safe, secure and just approach to our Southern Border.”
Trying to put a positive spin on the development, Sullivan showered praise on Jacobson’s work. The soon-to-be-former border czar attempted diplomatically to form a working relationship between Mexico and the United States in cooperation with Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador, better known as the Northern Triangle nations.

The situation on the border is getting worse by the day. Currently, there are more than 16,000 unaccompanied children that are being housed by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). 4,000 more are being cared for by Customs and Border Protection. The numbers are staggering. In March, 172,000 migrants were reportedly encountered by the CBP. Of those, 19,000 involved unaccompanied children. CBP says immigrant encounters have risen 71 percent in February alone.
Meanwhile, 79 days into the administration’s tenure, Biden is blaming former President Trump for the dire situation he faces at the border ostensibly due to reversing policies that were put into place by the previous administration.
Jacobson gushed to The New York Times over Biden’s leadership in his efforts to “fix” the border mess, referencing the four years of oversight by Trump. “They continue to drive toward the architecture that the president has laid out: an immigration system that is humane, orderly, and safe,” she remarked. “I leave optimistically. The policy direction is so clearly right for our country.”
She also repeated the talking point the Biden administration keeps promoting, that she always meant to depart after the first 100 days of the new administration which will be at the end of April.
Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris has now been put in charge of diplomatic efforts on the border between the U.S., Mexico, and Central American countries. She has yet to visit the border and has no announced plans to do so. Sullivan said that Harris will apply a “whole-of-government approach” to the crisis.
He also stated, “President Biden has asked Vice President Kamala Harris to lead the Administration’s work on our efforts with Mexico and the Northern Triangle, a testament to the importance this administration places on improving conditions in the region. The Vice President is overseeing a whole-of-government approach supported by outstanding public servants across the interagency including Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra, who were tasked by the President at the beginning of the administration to rebuild our immigration system.”
Jacobson said she was certain that the administration would be able to slow the surge down: “They know it is something that can’t happen overnight,” she commented. “Diplomacy is a conversation. It’s not a monologue.”
Her retirement comes less than a month after she said the White House was sending “mixed messages” to immigrants from Latin America. She reportedly remarked that “it is difficult at times to convey both hope in the future and the danger that is now.”
While there is no official report that Jacobson was fired, former US ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell offered his take in a tweet, “Biden blames and fires a woman for his disastrous border policy.”
